Here's a good analogy...

Music is a language - as children we learn to speak by listening to and then repeating what we've heard being said around us.

Most of us are quite capable of speaking for ourselves. Some are terse, some are wordy, some are extremely eloquent. We speak in order to communicate.

Music is a WRITTEN language. - There are many poets who are illiterate, and their illiteracy does not diminish what they have to say, or the manner in which they say it, but everyone knows that someone who is literate is going to have a much better command of their native tongue.

If you can read and write, you are going to be alot better off than if you can't - plain and simple. Literacy is one of the only things that seperates us from the beasts.

Following the same analogy... now that you can SPEAK, what is it you would like to SAY???

There's a whole lotta people out there babblin away these days...

I don`t think there is a place with so many flakes as here in Las Vegas....But I guess its stands to reason...everything else is fake here . I`ve lived in alot of places and this is one place I won`t miss at all..ok, maybe I`ll miss the free drinks at the casinos ....HAHAHA!!!!...As for the musicians here...they`re well for lack of a better term WORTHLESS!!!!!....I`ve even coined a few new phrases since I`ve been here...(Sonically Challenged, Sonically Disabled, Creatively Challenged, Creatively Disabled) and they all fit like a glove . When I first got here I quickly found out that there was nothing here but a bunch of copy cats, boot strappers and bottom feeders I also found out why as time went on . Everyone here copies because no one here can create anything....I`ve heard their feeble attempts...HAHAHA!!!!!...If there is a place worse than here someone please lemme know so I won`t make the mistake or moving there and wasting time and energy like I did here . This place has truly been a waste of my time and anybody else`s that`s actually serious about music . If you`re a rat or a mouse and just can`t get enough cheese Vegas is your place .

The flakes are everywhere and there is no escaping them. You can screen all you like and they will still slip through. And it has nothing to do with talent. I have met some very good musicians who have great talent but are major flakes. It goes all the way to the big time, Axel Rose for example. Great rock singer, major flake. Like someone here said, you just have to shovel through the {censored} until you find people you share a common interest. The key to a sucessful band is not necessarliy great musicianship. It's 4 or 5 guys who all are on the same page. If it was easy to do, just get these 5 guys together and make music we would all be millionaires.

I think the musical community is no different than the art community or the dance or acting community. They're all filled with creative, eccentric people trying to find a way through life without having to actually grow up. To some extent, I think we're all a bunch of immature dreamers, but without the dreamers there would be no progress.

Dancers (and pro dancers especially), compared to the number of guitarists, are few and far between--anyone can just pick up a guitar and start jamming with their friends, and even start off doing bar gigs at an intermediate level. There's a greater demand on being a professional dancer (i.e., ballet) as the competition is fierce--you're either good, or you're just not taken seriously. And if you can't cut it in the big time, it's not as if you can just scrape by doing local ballet gigs. But a musician can be quite casual if not lazy in his or her goals and still manage to find a gig or two as there are many levels of acceptance. Dancers and graphic artists are just weeded out much more quickly than musicians where you encounter greater trial and error and heavy turnover.
