Members cornelius1 Posted June 12, 2005 Members Posted June 12, 2005 is there a big diff in tone between 45s and 50s sets?
Members bassman1956 Posted June 12, 2005 Members Posted June 12, 2005 Most people seem to think the larger gaged strings are a little more smoothe and mellow, a little less bright and brittle. But really, that's only really valid for strings of the same brand and type. BTW, an FYI aside, it's gage when talking about the sizes of wire or sheet metal, and gauge when talking about measurements taken, such as gas or pressure gauge.

Gauge refers to size and/or weight depending on the idiom. Back in the old "black powder" era of gunning, a 12 gauge meant it took 12 shells to equal a pound. ......16 gauge took 16 shells to equal a pound etc.
