Members BEAD Posted June 13, 2005 Members Posted June 13, 2005 I've played a few and I like them. 60's-70's basses that seem to be reasonably priced. What's the deal?
Members Mudbass Posted June 13, 2005 Members Posted June 13, 2005 Well if you found a Mosrite that's reasonably priced chances are that it's a basket case or it's not a real Mosrite.

Members Mudbass Posted June 13, 2005 Members Posted June 13, 2005 Are we talking the Ventures model here? Most Mosrites aren't terribly valuable. The Ventures models are the exception. I tend to forget about the other Mosrite models and when somebody says "Mosrite" my brain defaults to the Ventures model.
Members Reverend179 Posted June 13, 2005 Members Posted June 13, 2005 The Univox Hi-Flier is a pretty cool bass if you like quirky and like the Ventures shape.

I don't know very much about Mosrite basses at all. I've played a few and really like the feel. That's about it. Both of the Mosrites I played had slanted pickups right by the neck, if that helps. One was around $600 and the other was around $1300.
Members Mudbass Posted June 13, 2005 Members Posted June 13, 2005 $600 and $1300 seems very low to me. A Ventures model in good shape ought to fetch a couple of grand at least. Maybe the guy isn't really aware of what he's got. Univox sold a lot of Ventures copies back in the day, but they're pretty easy to spot.
Members bnyswonger Posted June 14, 2005 Members Posted June 14, 2005 That was my first bass. I thought it was a piece of crap. They have a super narrow bound neck - kind of like a Vox or Hofner. Mine would feedback - like crappy microphone feedback - through the amp I was using at the time which was a Kustom 200 tuck & roll loaded with 2 15" Altecs (this was around '71 or '72). I couldn't wait to get rid of it & get a real bass. What I got was brand new jetglo 4001 - in '72. I can't believe the prices Mosrites bring these days...I'd rather have just about anything than one of those.
Members HoldingThsMoment Posted June 14, 2005 Members Posted June 14, 2005 my dad still has his original 60-something Mosrite Venture's model. i have played it a handful of times. the small neck doesn't phase me that much, seeing as how i play a geddy lee... but it is pretty damn small. cool vintage bass. never knew how much they were worth, though. his is a blue color with white pickguard... original case and all.
