Members Benjamin Posted June 14, 2005 Members Posted June 14, 2005 I dreamt about an all valve rig last night. In my dream I compared the Ampeg V4B to the Trace Elliot V4. I think I went with the Trace Elliot. The Ampeg was great, it didn't look like the normal Ampeg, instead it was some kinda spaceship thing with art-deco stylings. It took me a while to get a good sound out of it, and I recall having to crank the tone controls and pre. Then the Trace V4 came along and I heard the exact sound I want. In reality it isn't much different to what I have now (using a Trace AH300 and all), just a bit moreso and slightly dirtier/warmer. I think I must pursue this further. I was quoted quite a packet for a V4 if one could be found. I am thinking a V6 is going to be the middle ground I am after. Why did I have to dream about that? GAS!
Members der oxenrig Posted June 14, 2005 Members Posted June 14, 2005 Now trace is definately more boutique than sunn or music man.

Members oldivor Posted June 14, 2005 Members Posted June 14, 2005 As an Ampeg V-4B owner, I find this post diturbing. I want to try out a V-6 one day.
Members sunburstbasser Posted June 14, 2005 Members Posted June 14, 2005 I think the only way to really alleviate this GAS is to get a hold of both the Ampeg and the Trace.
Members Benjamin Posted June 14, 2005 Author Members Posted June 14, 2005 I am sure someone in here would be able to assist with comparisons. Seeing as I have a Trace already, then my leanings are toward that brand, and sound. Is there any word on the street of Ashdown bringing out an all valve head? Or of the imminent Trace rise from the ashes? Are valve amps really necessary these days?

Heck! You're one twisted {censored} I read a dream book once that had a section in it (paraphrased): "If you dream of a horse covered in naked flesh flying over your rooftop, trailing a flame and being ridden by an armour clad knight whilst ... (insert another ridiculous facet)... then you are seeing yourself as..." Now, I thought WTFF?!?! It begged the questions: Who would dream such a thing, and how many bloody people dreamt it for it to be written in a dream book fer chrissakes!! Methinks the author has issues of their own, and sought refuge in this book...
Members beam Posted June 14, 2005 Members Posted June 14, 2005 I once had a dream I was playing a Ric. It was the best playing, best feeling, best sounding instrument I had ever layed hands or ears on. Of course, I was playing like a pro too...and I've never actually played one.. I doubt my brain is that good at extrapolation, however I've been gassing to give a good 4003 a run for a while now
Members Benjamin Posted June 14, 2005 Author Members Posted June 14, 2005 Ahhhh *dreams of dreaming about Rics*

Members SpaceGhost Posted June 15, 2005 Members Posted June 15, 2005 I think I would sell my left leg and some organs for a Marshall Super Bass head. I had a chance to play one last august and fell in love. The tone is in the tubes.
