I've eaten a lot of potato chips in my life. According to this article, I'm in danger of getting cancer. You may be in danger too.

Public Health Advocates Cite Lack of Risk Notice on Potato Chip Bags

Public health attorneys in California have potato chip makers in their sights for not listing a cancer-causing chemical present in many brands.

That chemical is acrylamide. It is an industrial chemical used in plastics, pesticides and sewage treatment that also can occur when starchy foods, such as chips, are processed at high temperatures. The World Health Organization has said acrylamide may be responsible for up to one-third of all cancers caused by diet, as demonstrated by laboratory animal studies. Acrylamide is already on California's list of chemicals known to cause cancer, but some chipmakers haven't listed it on their product packaging as required by Proposition 65 statute.

The attorneys have filed Proposition 65 notices with the manufacturers of Lays, Pringles, Kettle Chips and Cape Cod chips. Research has shown those brands have unsafe levels of acrylamide in some of their chip varieties. The study looked at one ounce servings, which ranged from 11 to 20 chips depending on the brand, and determined the acrylamide content was substantially more than the 0.2 micrograms per day amount which prompts the Proposition 65 warning.

The brands tested and cited for high levels of acrylamide are: Lay

 Oh sweet Moses no! I might as well just kill myself now and get it over with. All this worry about what might kill me at some point is just too much. Can't drink the water, can't breathe the air, can't eat too much...processed food is the devil...my cell phone's gonna give me a brain tumor...and on and on... It's so common here for the local newschannels to run commercials throughout the day for their 10 o'clock broadcasts with something like "there is a hidden killer in your home, tune in at 10 for the story that just may save your life" .

Now, I'm not saying that one shouldn't take reasonable precautions. I once met this dip{censored} who didn't wear a seatbelt because she said that when it was her time to go(I suppose to that great magical land in the sky), that a seatbelt wouldn't matter. That, is just stupidity of the highest order. I wear a seatbelt and usually I look both ways when I cross the street if my self preservation instinct is particularly strong on that given day. But, am I gonna lay awake at night terrified that some potato chips MIGHT give me a tumor 30 years down the line, or that the power transformer behind my house is gonna give me ball cancer...umm...no.

I figure I'm going to die anyway at least I'll have died having enjoyed lots of potato chips.

It's that kind of mentality that

allows this cancer-producing

industry to thrive. Of course we're

all going to die someday, but do we

have to pay for it? Do we have to

actually throw hard-earned dollars

on a counter and say, "Please,

please, Mister Merchant of Death,

sir; please sell me something that

will give me bad breath, stink up

my clothes, and fry my lungs."

Most common causes of Cancer:

*******The World Health Organization has said acrylamide may be responsible for up to one-third of all cancers caused by diet, as demonstrated by laboratory animal studies.*****

You will note that diet doesn't even make the list of common causes, it's so rare. Also note this is in no way alluded to in the article. Is the reporter dumb or intentionally misleading? You be the judge. It took me about 5 seconds of heavy research with a top secret tool called Google to find the causes list.

Dudes and dudettes, here's a news flash. We all have abnormal or cancer cells in all of our bodies. It's a matter of your body being able to overwhelm them and keep them in check. Probably the biggest health risk agent out there are the hormones injected beef, pork and chicken to speed up their growth. You don't see them stamping meats with risk labels.

I believe that and stress are the main ingredience for obesity which leads to inactivity, not to mention half the ailments listed above. People who do physical work in other countries for example have far fewer incidents of cancer related deaths per capita including lung cancer. My point here is, and I'm surprised KK hasn't already expounded on it is yet, it's quality of life, not quanity. Who wants to live to be 99 years old? Not me. So enjoy your chips, ciggies or what have you. Just reduce stress. Go play your Bass.
