Members Tim in WV Posted June 18, 2005 Members Posted June 18, 2005 Well, I managed to tear my calf muscle in my lower left leg out walking yesterday. It's a class 2 tear at least and maybe more, though they wont know unless they do a MRI, which they wont do unless it does not get better. Wonder if anyone here has ripped the calf muscle in the back of the leg and how long did it take to heal? It's no better after 24 hours, cant drive, cant walk normally. Pain's pretty intense. Anyone else done this and have experience to share?
Members bholder Posted June 18, 2005 Members Posted June 18, 2005 Well, I hope you fare better than I have. I tore mine 10 years ago, and it took a long time to feel back to normal, but worse, it never seemed to heal fully, I still keep getting occasional lesser tears and strains. I wish I knew what to do about it, maybe more physical therapy would help.
Members bholder Posted June 18, 2005 Members Posted June 18, 2005 The first time it tore, I did get a lower leg support stocking that really did help, wore that regularly for a month or two. Still use it sometimes to this day. I don't think they're presecription, but you may have to go to a specialty shop to find one (sports medicne, orthopedic, etc.). But the first few days, painkillers, keep it immobile and relaxed as possible. Did they tell you to ice it or anything? I forget whether I did for that or not (did for my knees though).
Members Tim in WV Posted June 18, 2005 Author Members Posted June 18, 2005 yeh they told me to ice it. It was two POP's in that part of my leg in rapid succession. I was pushing off my left foot when it happened. I actually heard the pop's and felt it tear out. Lots of rest and no going anywhere. My Fiancee is coming fown after work tomorrow and staying the night, and my Dad was here last night and some of today. He's coming back Sunday too. I hope I can drive on Monday or I will start burning vacation time at work. I had mono a few years ago that knocked my ass out and I had to do the unpaid medical leave thing. Hope that does happen this time.
Members bholder Posted June 18, 2005 Members Posted June 18, 2005 If you don't have crutches or a sturdy cane already, you'll probably want to get something for a while. Do you drive standard or automatic? Automatic is doable one-footed, standard's tough. I ended up "clutching with a crutch" (actually, a cane worked better) for a while after my left knee went. Wasn't pretty (maybe not even legal), but I could get back and forth.
Members KeroseneTrewthe Posted June 18, 2005 Members Posted June 18, 2005 Not calf related but a couple years ago I tore my shoulder while dislocating it. Its never been the same. Bummer is that I cant really play softball in my summer league. ...I now throw like a girl.... and whenever I swing a bat my shoulder pops out. Pretty painful. With torn muscles theres not a whole lot you can do to make it better faster. Rest it as much as you can.
Members Fran da Man Posted June 18, 2005 Members Posted June 18, 2005 My better half "sprained" her ankle years ago...you remember the old saying to "walk it off"? well thats what she did and kept on working, going up stairs etc...it didn't heal then, and now it never will. She comes home in tears from that damn thing sometimes.I have a torn rotorcuff in my throwing arm, like Kerosene, I have to be real, real careful playing ball. Sometimes it will hurt for no appearent reason.Just baby the living crap out of that calf for awhile, or pay the rest of your life.
Members More Cowbell Posted June 19, 2005 Members Posted June 19, 2005 i tore my groin about 5 years ago...almost 6 now.... It'll never be the same....
