Members jcwu Posted June 24, 2005 Members Posted June 24, 2005 Hello! My first post, and I'm already asking for help! I have a SWR Redhead (the 240W version). Today during practice, I had the bass plugged in, and I was playing around with the gain and volume. I turned the gain knob up and down a few times, and one of those times, I hear a pop and sizzle, and after that, the amp seems to have lost a lot of power, and everything sounds VERY distorted. Does this sound like a familiar problem? My first guess is that something inside blew, or maybe something went wrong with a tube, but I have no idea. We're playing on Sunday, and while I do have a backup for this amp, I'd like to know if this is something I can fix before then. Thanks for any help in advance!

Members jcwu Posted June 24, 2005 Author Members Posted June 24, 2005 Thanks, Kaesh. I'll look into finding a local shop that'll replace the speaker(s). And I didn't see any magic smoke... I *did* smoke a small GK combo once, I actually saw a small fire inside the amp (I think a capacitor blew) before smoke poured out. Cool.
Members Kaesh Posted June 24, 2005 Members Posted June 24, 2005 You generally don't replace speakers, you recone them. Also, get someone to look at it properly to make sure it's that before you drop the cash.
