String Buzz

I recently brought my bass in for a setup. Since the first time I had my bass, the A string has always buzzed on the open 0. The setup and new strings helped a bit, but not completely. Is there anything I can do so it will stop buzzing when played open?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Sounds like the groove in the nut for the A string is too low, a quick fix is to cut a slither of credit card and put on the nut underneath the string, if it's too high then wittle it down somehow.

Hows the setup otherwise?

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that tonight.

As for the setup, it is amazing. My brother and his friend always take their instruments there and suggested it to me.

Another thing you may want to check for is the break angle from the nut to the tuning peg; if the string is too straight (not going down towards the headstock) this will give buzz like crazy. Make sure the string is down pretty close to the bottom of the peg.

Thanks so much! I actually used a broken pick and cut it to size.

It worked! Thanks so much, wow. Finally, the buzz is gone!

Well, how high is too high? Because it is .. slightly high.

It isn't too significant. It may be like, 1 mm higher than the other strings. Before when it was level it buzzed though so..

This is common on a Fender style bass, even with a properly cut nut.

The age-old solution is to wrap the string to the bottom of the string post, which creates the most pressure on the nut. A lift in the nut will throw off the intonation and affect the tone adversely.
