So I bid on this Stingray and lost...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4713&item=7331984134&rd=1

Just got a second chance offer to get it for $1000AUD ($770USD)

which is a good price for a 'Ray here in Aus.

I am having some doubts without seeing the bass in person.

It's not a colour I really dig either.

I know if I decided I did not like it I could sell it no probs for more than I payed IF there is nothing drasticly wrong with it.

Looks good in the pics.

Are there any possible major probs that can happen to 'Rays?

Neck shift, twisting etc that would be hard and or expensive to fix?

From what I can gather the guy who's selling it does not really know much about it.

May be my chance to nab a bargain.

first off, it's not envy green. that was a limited edition color that came with a black headstock.

this one is probably teal, an extremely difficult color to photo but very nice in person. the quality control at EB is top notch and i wouldn't hesitate to buy this one in a second.

How far away are you from this bass? It looks good, and his feedback is perfect. Is that a drop D bender on the tuner? I personally like the color. But of course, I like my buzzard vomit yellow Fender Musicmaster, too. Go see it. Why are you getting a second chance to buy it?

Dude you should SO rock that.

I think either pearloid or a tort-shell cover replacement would change it all the way up.

OK.

done!!

I have agreed to the price of $1025AUD.

That is a bargain here.

My only fear is that the neck is cracked or twisted, but as we are doing the deal above board on eBay I can always use them to back me up if any probs right? He described the condition as "Excellent" so if I find different then I can complain to eBay right?

Whew...............haven't dealt in such big bucks in a long time.

This is the first bass I have bought in 8 years

Sorry man. Missed your questions here.

I am not far from it, but the guy said he is overseas at ATM and will get his wife to send it at his expense.

It does have a hipshot, but he does not mention it in the description, that makes me think he does not know much about basses.

I got a second chance as the winnign bidder backed out due to financial probs.

We are doing our transaction all through eBay channels so it is all above board.

Hmm.

I think this may be a scam.

I received very official looking emails from what appears to be eBay, giving instructions on how to proceed.

They all appear as AW-CONFIRM@ebay.com emails, but the return address is infoebaypayments @yahoo.com

Non of these emails appear in My Massages in My eBay

Also the payment method is Western Union (alert!!!) when the original auction was Paypal or direct credit.

I have emailed eBay and also the original winner to check.

Damn.....I thought I was getting a reasonably proced 'Ray.

If you' re not far from it, tell him you will do the transaction (exchange) in person. Sounds like a scam to me, 2.

No he's not an orange, he would be red and bloody if I could find him.

I emailed the guy who had the winning bid for the bass (whom supposedly backed out of the transaction due the financial probs)

detailing the dubious nature of the emails I received and asking him if he did indeed back out of thr deal.

He emailed back saying, he had no idea what was going on, he had paid and the bass was in his hands now.

{censored}ing crook!!

Coulda been out $1000 bucks.

Man........people on the world huh.

Sounds like someone might have hijacked this auction. The (real)seller may not even know about it. Please alert Ebay.

Yep.

Definately a hijacked auction.

You would not belaive how authentiiv the emails from "eBay" look.

They have all the logos, and links etc.

Have reported to eBay, will see what happens.

That sucks Shel. When was the last time you took a wander down to the Bass Centre? Last I was there, there were some nice pieces, including a couple of sexy G&Ls.

I was there last week.

No G&L's (except a Tribute)

The mid/high end stuff they had were MM's (even a Bongo), Warwick, Belman, a couple of Laklands and a STACK of Fenders.

I definately want to treat myself to another nice bass in the next year.

I have a Steiny Spirit in the Trading post, plus some coin saved.

When I'm all cashed up I might take and arvo off, go and play the whole store, and maybe find my lost muse.

As soon as I saw Wetsern Union I my suspicions were aroused.

He spun a story of being out of the coubtry and his wife being home alone so not wanting psople over there in his absense.

Pretty clever and believable huh
