Thait said, they can take a lot of power, as well. If you want to have a load of headroom and dynamics, they do wonderfully, as well. They aren't your typical 15 inch speaker cabinet. They have a very strong lower-mid-range, but they have more of the response of a 10 inch speaker. They're extremely thumpy and very warm - classic, toned. They aren't going to put out an enormous amount of lows, but I've never been disappointed in that regard. I find them to be wonderful cabinets. 40+ pounds, easy to carry, and sound great. You can't go wrong with them. I bought both of mine used. 1 in good condition at a STEAL for $199.00, and the other in mint condition with bag for $299.00. A lot of people who own 2 of the cabinets love to get one with the coax tweeter. Any other questions?

Members ezstep Posted July 6, 2005 Members Posted July 6, 2005 I have the larger S-15B-D cabinet, not quite as portable, but better lower freq response. I bought one via bassgear.com and after I got it and used it, I bought the second one. They are light (55 lbs) for bass cabs. They are loud. They are very clean and clear, not muddy at all. A lot of the original speakers in the early SWR cabs were BagEnd speakers (BigFoot cab, etc., - not the Workingman series).

Thanks! My 2 S-15D cabinets without tweeters sound wonderful. I've never actually liked the tweeter on any cabinet, and usually roll the tone back on my basses, so I wonder if having the coax would be of use for me, but I'd certainly like to try it, at least. Kerosene, here's a photo from Bag End of the cabinet (2 in my case) that I own:

At least to MY ears.
Members KeroseneTrewthe Posted July 7, 2005 Author Members Posted July 7, 2005 From what Im hearing is that they sound like a tight clean 15" Man, I want to hear one. Is there a difference with the red or black carpeted cab other than the carpet? ...of course the black one sounds better. But really?
Members ezstep Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 I was told that the red carpet is newer than the black carpet. Other than that, they are identical.
Members bnyswonger Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 The bigger ones that Mike has would be my first choice of I had to replace my current single 15" cabs. 2 15"s rule the world.
Members bassment zombie Posted July 8, 2005 Members Posted July 8, 2005 I haven't used mine in a gig yet (only rehearsal/jams), and last night, I was able to hear a band and bassist that I know quite well and have seen perform at least 20 times before. The bassist has gone through various rigs the past few years. A B100R (that he readily admits he never should have parted with), and SVT through an Ampeg 410, a Fliptop, and now he's using a Bag End S15-D with a Peavey amp from the 1980s. Found a photo of the amp he was using (not the actual amp, but same one/model): Looks like crap, right? Well, all I can tell you is that the Bag End + that 80s Peavey amp sounded AWESOME - in fact, sounded better than any rig he's ever used playing with the band before. Almost couldn't believe my ears, but my friend (who is a gigging musician) who was with me last night confirmed that he sounded better than ever. Not too shabby! The Bag End cabinet he had was well worn, and he probably spent around $199.00 like I did...that Peavey amp? I'd be surprised if he spent $90 for it...sounded fabulous. The Bag End S15-D was huge sounding and plenty punchy. I sat up front for a while to listen to it, and stood in the back for the 2nd half of the night...sounded fabulous in both locations. The Bag End does what it does in a phenomenal way, and to boot, it's extremely reasonably priced.
Members KeroseneTrewthe Posted July 8, 2005 Author Members Posted July 8, 2005 Theres a local shop that has a 2x10 coaxial used. Im not really into 2x10's but if I get this and a 1x15 that could be a cool setup. I'll see how they sound tomorrow. Where is everyone finding the BE cabs so cheap??

I tested 'em out at Make-N-Music in Chicago. Make sure you give us a detailed report of your tests.

The screaming deal I got on my first one ($199.00) was at an area shop (Boston). I didn't even bother haggling them down, the price was so good. BassNW regularly sells them for $275.00 or so, but you'd have to pay roughly $20-$30 shipping, as well. The one I bought from BassNW was MINT, with cover. I even suspect it was new, it is in such wonderful condition.
Members KeroseneTrewthe Posted July 8, 2005 Author Members Posted July 8, 2005 T.A.S. Will do BZ, I'll keep my eye out there. thanks
Members 76blacktbird Posted July 8, 2005 Members Posted July 8, 2005 I have two Bag Ends. a 15 & a 12. I agree with Bassment Zombie & Smith--they rock and they are super portable. And, as noted, if you look you can get a great deal on 'em.
Members Roswellian Posted July 8, 2005 Members Posted July 8, 2005 I have a 1X15 that I use in small venues and it totally rocks! It covers clean and punchy or dark and growly depending on what I am playing. I've never over driven it no matter how hard I push. Both my Hartke HA 4000 and Ampeg SVT III Pro sound great with the Bag End. I will come clean here and admit that I had no idea who Bag End was and just really liked the small size of the enclosure and figured I could drop a Peavey Black Widow into it if the speaker puked on me. After a while I did some research and discovered that Bag End was a respected high end brand... My 1X15 was a trade for a digitech vocal effects processor which I valued at about 200 bucks so I figure I got a bargan.
