Members rig-talk.com Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 Anyone else own one of these? I needed a few bucks and ended up selling one of my Stingrays. It sucks, because I love those basses with a passion and it was very cool owning two SR's that sounded different, but I couldn't reallyo justify it. Anyway, I still have my black SR as my #1, so I went shopping today for a "beater" backup bass. I ran across a used Peavey Fury in great condition! Plugged it in and took it home 10 minutes later. The bass actually plays and sounds great. Very P-bassish, which I guess was Peavey's whole idea when designing this bass. It has a satin finish ash body, maple fretboard and a passive pickup. I'm not sure what year it is, but I think it might be around 1983. I have a post on the Peavey message board to find out. Here are some pics: Does anyone else use one? Not too bad for the price I paid (which included the hardshell case)!!! Chris
Members phatster Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 That is a kool bass...I love my t-40!

Ya know, all I wanted was a cheapo used pile of crap bass to have around as a backup and I got much more than that. I have this setup to play and sound great. It's no Stingray or anywhere near it, but I'm impressed with it so far. The hardware is actually quite good when compared to MIM Fenders and others in that price range. The big 'ole "barrell-style" saddles remind me of MusicMan. The bridge is pretty nice and the tuners work well. Chris

Members bholder Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 Hey, if you like it, you like it. Sounds like a good deal to me! I have 3 T40s.

In my opinion, if you can get a bass that plays good, has a body made of nice wood (even if it is 5-piece or whatever), a good tone, decent hardware and feels solid for $150, it's a good thang!
Members timmerz Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 Aw, dude....for $150??You got away with murder...that's a great bass for $150, even without the case....

Members MageZ Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 Sure it's not the best bass ever created, but for 150 with case? Looks like solid chunk of a nice wood so even if the electronics suck, it still can be killer project bass.

It doesn't sound bad... Also, I'm not sure I could find an aftermarket pickup to fit in that strange slot anyway. Here's a shot of the insides...
Members MageZ Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 The PU is standard humbucker of something more like a MusicMan pickup? The wood looks great.

Well the part of the pickup sticking out above the pickguard isn't nearly as big as a humbucker, but the part of the pickup underneath the pickguard is much bigger. At this point, I don't plan on replacing the pickup at all. But I'd kinda like to find out if a different pickup would work. I guess you could always cut the pickup hole in the pickguard to fit another pickup? Chris
Members BigPigPeaches Posted July 7, 2005 Members Posted July 7, 2005 Man, that's a nice one. Must be really early...my first bass was a Peavey Fury, bought it new in 1987. I've still got it, but rarely play it anymore. It's autographed by Christy Canyon and Ron Jeremy. Good score!

I forgot to mention that Peavey confirmed this is a 1984 Fury! Great year! Chris
