Theres a computer here with Win2k on it and I had to do a repair to the windows using the restore disk.

Everything went fine and it rebooted and now its stuck on this "Windows 2000 Setup" screen. Telling me to Please Wait.

I have been waiting for an hour and nothing.

I tried to repeat the repair but it automatically goes to this screen now even booting to the cd.

Any ideas?

restore disk? Was it the Emergency Repair Disk? The install CD? Or some crazy concoction the vendor sent with the computer?

Its the disk that came with the Dell computer.

Says Operating System on the top. Reinstallation CD W2k + SP2

When I threw it in, i had the option to do a repair or an installation. I chose the repair. And now im where I am.

Call Dell. I don't think their restore CD's consist only of the operating system.

Otherwise, I suppose you could try to format and reinstall fresh. Although you'll lose whatever is on your hard drive (if you haven't already).

usually those "restore" disks reference a cloned partition on your hard disk. there might have been like a 10g d: drive or something. they usually just ghost a copy of the os out and compare to the current copy and replace anything damaged. they usually DON:T contain a copy of the os.

if possible, do a clean install, as you probably lost everything already.

if you do reinstall, go get a new disk drive (80gig will run you like $70), install the os to the fresh disk, and use the old disk as a slave. you might be able to get all your documents back that way. but that is, of course, if you have a full copy of the os. dell will probably tell you to send it to them to fix, and then there will be a crapshoot as to weather you will get your info back.

Seriously, if it is an actual Windows 2000 installation CD (which is unlikely), do the reinstall, and select the option that says "Install in existing partition". That overwrites the installation that's already in there without causing data loss.

This all does not sound good.

Then would good is the reinstallation disk for repairs? Crap, all I wanted to do was a simple repair. When I put the cd in, I could press "r" for repair or enter to install the windows.

This really blows.

Thanks all for your advice. Hopefully something can work out.
