Members B-Bottom Posted July 11, 2005 Members Posted July 11, 2005 I'm so fed up with the guitar player in my bands. I've known him for about 3 years. We've been in several bands together and right now we're in two together, ones a cover band the other original. He's a good guitar player but he's a prick. In fact we were at a bar together on Saturday night and I was about 2 seconds from locating his jaw on the other side of his face. He has this thing where he will constantly berrate people until they give in. The argument that night was that he said a Banshee is not only a folklore but an animal as well. I kept telling him that it wasn't then he started in with me about how I was the stupides tperson he ever met and blah blah blah. I stood up and grabbed a hold of him. I told him that if he said one more word then we're going outside. of course he stopped. So now he's telling me that he can't practice wiht the cover band this weekend. Didn't give a reason just tha the can't. I knwo this guy and all he does is play video games. He's 28 and still lives at home for christ sake and he's not going anywhere soon. Not becaus ehe can't afford it, he has a good job, it's just that he's lazy. Anyway he menioned the other night about getting rid of the drummer for the original band. I said it's not going to happen. he's a good drummer and is really into the music. Anyway I emailed him about us getting together this week to work on the original stuff. If he says no or that he's not working with the drummer i'm quitting. I. so fed up with him. Thier are a lot of other things that he does, but because this is a rant I don't have the patience to get into it. Jesus I hate guitar players
Members Bonoman Posted July 11, 2005 Members Posted July 11, 2005 The good thing about guitar players is that they're a dime a dozen. Relocate his jaw and go find a new one. You shouldn't need to put up with that.

Members vanlatte Posted July 11, 2005 Members Posted July 11, 2005 Ack, that sounds like a bad situation to be in Personality is a big part of a band going anywhere...or not. I have similar reservations about our dummer; hes a great guy, usually, but suffers from the "My equipment is better than yours" syndrome and isn't shy about pointing it out with other bands. I *so* know this feeling. but don't have anything useful to offer. Sowwy.
Members L-1329 Posted July 11, 2005 Members Posted July 11, 2005 This is a good place to steal a quote from I think Vanlatte- "guitar players are easy to find. *throws a rock out the window, hits three guitar players* "

Members B-Bottom Posted July 11, 2005 Author Members Posted July 11, 2005 Part of me is hoping that he does say what I think he's going to say so that I can move on and be in a different band. I'd also like to start working on comics again. I miss doing the small press stuff sometimes. Mainly becaus eyou don't have to deal with anyone else and just do your own thing
Members B-Bottom Posted July 11, 2005 Author Members Posted July 11, 2005 Originally posted by Perfessor He sounds better than most. I'm not going into all the details. Trust me he's up there with t he worst. We've had so many people come and go through out the years in the original band and even a few fo the cover band, and they've all said the reason for them leaving was him. I stopped talking to him about a year ago. I joined a few other bands but always found the music they were producing to be less than mediocre. I do think my mind is moe open now than what it was then though. Plus I was still trying to do the metal thing. I'd like to try to be in a more experimental Faith no more-ish type of band rahte rthan a megadeth type of metal band.

This sentence stood out for me because I've been in this situation before. Trust me, man - leave now, you'll be much happier in the long run, no matter how good he is. Put it this way - if you were in a relationship with a girl that was great in bed but a total beeyatch the rest of the time, would you stay with her? Really, it's not much different...
Members Thunderbroom Posted July 11, 2005 Members Posted July 11, 2005 Dump the guitarist. I guess I'd rather have a less-than-stellar guitarist to play music with than a know-it-all jackass.
Members B-Bottom Posted July 11, 2005 Author Members Posted July 11, 2005 yea i know you guys are right I guess I just needed it confirmed. Thanks for the advice all
