Members permission
I'm currently using a Harkte 3000 head (yes i know....but it really isn't that bad, and way more reliable than the Ampeg B2R and GK 800RB that i previously owned) w/ a Fender Jazz, and have the option getting either a 4x10 SWR Goliath III OR a 4x10 SWR Goliath II. Are either of these cabs good? I've heard a lot of postive stuff about SWR cabs in the past, but personally have never tried them. And is there any difference in quality/tone/volume/etc/etc between the Goliath II and III?
Members T. Alan Smith
Most folks think the IIs are the greatest 4x10s ever made. I dunno. I really dig the IIIs.
Members GrooveMonkey
The Goliath II is rear-ported. I'd think they'd sound a bit different just because of that.
Members KeroseneTrewthe
I never played through a Gol. II but played through a couple III's. They would really good. Deep and punchy and clear would be the description I would give em. Good luck
Members KeroseneTrewthe
I think the black grill looks better than the chrome.
Members Joey Joe Joe
I've got a Goliath II, it's beautiful. I always try out different 4x10's at music shops and I've never found one that's made me want to switch. Even played some III's, they're definitely nice, but not as good as my II. I can't really put my finger on the exact difference, but the III is just missing the little something extra.
Members My bass in your face
I've been told that IIs have more warmth and are smoothers then IIIs. 3rd hand info
Members bassmaniac
I love my Goliath II. It's 16 years old. I've still yet to hear another cabinet that sounds as good as this one...as long as it is placed well. Since it is rear ported, if there is no wall behind it, it can sound kind of lost. When well placed, the sound is incredible and it feels like it can knock down walls.

So then it would knock down the wall, and sound lost anyway That's not good I'd really love to try out some high-end SWR gear. It's impossible to find here though. I've tried WMA's and meh. Nothing special.
Members Morpheus
I used to play a hartke 7000 through my goliath III. Punchy, loud, clean and clear. Great cab. Though the tone on the hartke sucked, sounds like cardboard. But if you run a sansamp DI or other amp modeler/effect that should fix you up in the tone dept. I've got a trace elliot AH600SMX and it definately does the job now. I love the look of goliath III as well, I polished the chrome and it looks at treat. blingin'
