Members james on bass Posted July 16, 2005 Members Posted July 16, 2005 I noticed in the most recent bass porn thread that Incubitabus posted a pic. of a Jaydee bass. Does anyone here use those?I was a huge fan of Level 42 back in the day and Mark King of course used the Supernatural series. I know there are a few people endorsing them and the company still exists. I played one years ago at a shop when I was in the other London, but have never seen one since. I understand they are the British version of Alembic so I assume they are uber expensive. Just curious...
Members Incubitabus Posted July 17, 2005 Members Posted July 17, 2005 I got to play a "beater" Calibas (the one i posted a pic of) in a music/pawn shop about a year ago. The bass was for sale on consignment (sort of). The owner's friend owned it, and was tinkering with the idea of selling it. In the condition it was in, the $5000 he was asking was a bit on the high side ( ). On the flip side of the issue, I have never played a more versatile bass. That thing would be the ultimate pairing with a GBE 1200. I got slap tone, finger tone, pick tone, tapping tone... EVERYTHING! One day, hopefully, I'll be able to custom order one for myself to use in the studio, but until then... *Picks up beloved Warwick FNA*
Members james on bass Posted July 17, 2005 Author Members Posted July 17, 2005 So being that they are a $7000-8000 plus bass would explain why I haven't seen any around. From everything I've read on them, they sure look like you could dial in almost anything sound-wise.
Members s4001 Posted July 17, 2005 Members Posted July 17, 2005 I had a good buddy that was a Jaydee enthusiast and had one. His was okay, but he had to sell it. Apparently the earlier ones, neck warping was a severe problem and a frequent problem.
