Members mysterybat35 Posted July 17, 2005 Members Posted July 17, 2005 Hi, I just bought a five string bass because I like the deeper notes produced on the additional string... Anyway I have been playing electric and don't know how to tune this thing. Is the first string ( I mean the biggest string/5th string) tuned to a C note or a B note... are those notes regular notes, flat notes or sharp? Thanks btw..anyone have any audio clips of a 5 string bass? thanks so much mb35

Members Fran da Man Posted July 17, 2005 Members Posted July 17, 2005 You been playing electric what? What james posted is your standard tuning on a 5er.Some guys use a 4 string set with an additional "C" string, giving them a tuning of E, A, D, G, C.If you want hear the electric bass notes of EADG go to this site and click the tuningfork in the lower left, have your speakers on. It's also a good informational site.
Members xT-Birdx Posted July 17, 2005 Members Posted July 17, 2005 There are a variety of tunings for a 5 string, Here are a few. BEADG - Standard ADGCF - 1 step down G,C,F,Bb,Eb - 2 steps down GCGCF - B and E 2 steps down and A, D, and G 1 step down. There are alot more tunings but those are ones that Ive used when I was playing a 5. Im now only sticking with 4's, I just cant get used to the neck with, Im just not comfortable, Besides, You can just drop tune a 4, You may need 35" or 36" though.
