Was looking to get a new ibanez bass for metal, rock, and punk type music. Was looking for something as light as possible. Any suggestions?

one of my first basses was an ibanez. I had nothing but problems with it. And I bought a higher end model too. My suggestion is to get something else like an ernie ball.

why must the bass be as light as possible?

I do a lot of jumping and moving around when i play. So I need something that is light and good for metal rock and punk. Basically it can be any brand, and not just an ibanez. I already have a fender p bass for punk and need a second bass

Look into an SRX500 or 505. I have one, great bass and probably the lightest bass I own. Basswood body with a flame top.

The lightest bass is the EDA900. Feels like a toy its so light.

I think MusiciansFriend has them on clearance right now for a really low price.

They are different sounding basses and might not do punk to well but would be good for metal.

First bass i owned was an SR-500, P/J pickup configuration, active electronics. It sounded kinda... well, stale, for a lack of a better word. It was a great player, tho. EXTREMELY thin neck, pretty damn light. Very easy to jump around. If you want a thrasher, I'd say go for it, 'cause you can get them relatively cheap. I just don't really dig the way they sound. (just my experience with one particular bass, mind you)

if you're interested, i've got the ibanez srx 700 up for sale. same model as lug posted, but neck through, and slightly upgraded electronics (i believe).

not terribly light, but sounds very very nice. PM for price.

Why an Ibanez?

I've found out that lighter basses tend to have a less "woody" sound and lack character, IMNVHO.......

I've got the starter ibanez bass, GSR 190, I've modded the hell out of it though. Ive made it 35" scale and put a badass II bridge on it, and Ive put some Dirmarzio Models J's in it(routed out space for the jazz where the p was), going straight to the jack, Its strung with DR Highbeams and it plays fantastic, Ive shimmed the neck alittle and have the action perfect, The badass was a huge improvment over the stock bull{censored} ibanez put on it.

Honestly, If you are gonna get an ibanez, Get one with Bartolinis in it, Or get a cheaper one, then switch the pups out, and maybe the bridge, I wanted the bridge from the SRX series on my bass but I just didnt feel like dealing with talking to the folks at ibanez, so i got a used badass and, bam, Plays tons better.
