Members L-1329 Posted July 24, 2005 Members Posted July 24, 2005 Anyone know the best way to pack up a bass for shipping, when it's not in a case? I have to unload one of the kids, but may need to keep the HSC here. I have not used ebay to sell anything before, but may have to to sell this kind of a bass. Could use some good idea's or suggestions. Thanks...
Members Thunderbroom Posted July 24, 2005 Members Posted July 24, 2005 I'm thinking you can wrap it multiple times with the smaller bubble wrap and then put it in a box filled with styrofoam peanuts.
Members __tony__renaud Posted July 24, 2005 Members Posted July 24, 2005 I got my $pendy JayDee bass with no case. It was wrapped in a whole lot of bubble wrap that was stiffened by cardboard, and placed in a box that was bigger than what you normally see a bass come in. No problems at all. FWIW, Lakland ships their Skyline 01 series axes in a form fitting box that has styrofoam supports that gets put in another box. I got mine like that from the factory, also with no problems.
Members bassman1956 Posted July 24, 2005 Members Posted July 24, 2005 I've got a spare box, with peanuts. Yours free, if you want to come pick it up. Have some other large cardboard you could make an inner box or such with too. My Aria 5er was shipped to me in it, in a gig bag.

It's an Explorer body, measures 52" from the top of the headstock to the back point of the rear body, if that makes sense. Let me know, and thanks!
Members 1tallbassguy Posted July 24, 2005 Members Posted July 24, 2005 I have seen others use that foam siding to use as packing. It comes in sheets 4x8 available in 3/4" thickness. Try Home Depot. It can be cut to size and gives some rigidness to the interior packing.
Members Jazz Ad Posted July 24, 2005 Members Posted July 24, 2005 I usually make a box in the box.I roll foam around delicate parts, then pack it tightly in cardboard. Then I put it in a bigger box with balled newspapers, peanuts or anything I have at hand.
Members KeroseneTrewthe Posted July 25, 2005 Members Posted July 25, 2005 Bubble wrap it like a freak. Then you'll only need one box. Heck someone delivered me a quitar with no case only bubble wrapped. Its was pretty funny looking. Couldnt even tell what it was. Just this massive ball of bubble wrap. Nothing was getting to that bass. Dont forget to loosen the strings to take the pressure off the neck when you ship it.

I still plan to bring it down to your gig. Anyway, it's hard enough to justify one Explorer, much less two of them. I am going to need the money from this one to get the Nordie pups for the Uber-Explorer! Sure would look good hanging on your bass wall!

But remember the truss rod! Say, L-, just measured the box. 48" x 22.5" x 10" outside. Diagonal across the largest panel is 52". If you can use it, let me know.

That would be a good idea also since this thing does take a bit of getting used to. A song that is not that technically demanding would be a good choice. You have played it, but it does feel a little strange at first when you are playing for real. Not a big deal, just different is all. Just be ready for all the attention!

Members bassman1956 Posted July 25, 2005 Members Posted July 25, 2005 TB, a country band, and you have only one (1) ballad?!!!?

I'm looking at the setlist now. We've got some tweeners in the setlist though that one could argue either way. They were doing mostly ballads when the new singer(s), new drummer and myself joined the band. We've been trying to remedy the situation.
