i was looking into the boss bass chorus or the digitech multi chorus. I was wondering if anyone knew which one would sound better with the boss limiter enhancer. I was looking for the most smooth sound for melody. If you know of any other pedals that would sound smoother with the limiter enhancer let me know. Thanks

The Digitech pedals all seem to be able to do a bit more than the Boss pedals.

The MultiChorus has up to a 16 voice chorus, which should make it the more versatile of the two.

As far as smoothness goes, can you give us an example of the tone you're going for? You know, something like:

- Mark Hoppus's bass tone on the "Enema of the State" album. -

:D

yea im going more towards the typical punk rock blink 182, simple plan, good charlotte type of music. I know most people would say straight through the amp but a want a stronger tone

With all the threads and all the questions about strengthening your tone and smoothness, it sounds to me like you're unsatisfied with your speaker cabinets or your amp.

No pedal shy of a SansAmp Bass Driver DI or an MXR M-80 Bass Driver can un{censored} a bad amp.

And nothing can fix bad speakers except for new speakers.

What does your rig consist of?

I use a behringer bx 600. Its not about the rig is use. Its about lookin around for the best possible combo i can for the mulitple types of music i play. The reason i have so many threads is cause no one can answer my question. I just wanna know if the limiter is good with the bass chorus and if the limiter is good woth the overdrive.

Just remember, you can't polish a turd.

Makes sure your bass tone is good out of the amp and cabs before you try to color it with pedals.

Tone starts in your fingers (technique).

The electronics in the bass, as well as your preamp in your bass amp are critical elements. But even if all that is good, your speakers could screw everything up.

The tone has to be there already. As a general rule, pedals don't fix tone.

You're wrong... It's ALL about the rig you use. You'll learn that as you go.

Yes, the limiter is good with either, with both, or by itself.

I've used the limiter, both the Boss Chorus, and the Digitech, and I've heard great things about the boss OD.

You can definately use all three in any order that sounds good.

Just looked at the BX600.

bx600_big-85535f6d87bfd2ff4c3ea826eac52f

That is a 60 watt combo amp with a single 12" speaker!

No wonder you want a stronger sound.

With the style of music you want to play, you will need at least triple the wattage and double the speakers to sound like anything at all.

I hate to burst your bubble here, but that amp is barely powerful enough for a small coffee house acoustic gig. Your music style requires the lowest lows a bass can produce. It takes hundreds of watts to kick out low frequencies at audible concert levels.

I hope this isn't coming off as insensitive, but it's safe to say the problem lies almost solely with your amp.

yea i know my amp is pretty crappy, but right now im looking for a sound i can get comfortable with. I use it mainly for jammin out to songs and playn with some friends in a basemnet or somewhere small. Right now i dont need anything huge. I am gonna look into buying some of the new behringer amps that just came out, but im gonna research that more.

Youd be better off switching from Behringer to Peavey for combo amps. Better sound, reliability & build. Have you concidered any of the multieffects units for bass by boss, digitech, etc? Much cost saveings for the effects your interested in by those companies.

I use a boss OD and a digitech bass multichorus. I don't find myself using the Boss that much when i play out, more just for jamming, which sounds like your situation. The multichorus is versatile as all hell tho. Most useful pedal i've purchased.

Any effect is good with another, you just have to find out which you put in front of which... A limiter is not a dramatic effect... In the old Boss Pocket Pedal Dictionnary, the limiter seems to be usually placed in the beginning of the effect chain (closer to your bass) EXCEPT when used with effects that are directly affected by the intensity of your playing (synth bass, enveloppe filter, touch wah, etc.). So the typical effect chain you'd look into would be :

Limiter, OD, chorus

'cause a chorus sounds better AFTER distortion... But I'd try the OD before the Limiter if I where you to see what you like better 'cause an OD will react (depending on the pedal you're using) to the intensity variations of your picking/plucking. That can be good if you got a nice control over your attack, or bad if you're just not able to get a even attack when you need it... So try it out !

So it's either:

Limiter---Overdrive---Chorus

OR

Overdrive---Limiter---Chorus

And there's NO such thing as a pedal NOT working with another !!!

I didn't realized he used a 60 watter !

Sell the amp, take the money you saved for pedals and buy a new amp, maybe a used one...

Pick a Ampeg if you're lucky and you find one... I needed a smaller amp lately (I use an SVT rig usually) and found an Ampeg B2 Combo at a very low price and it's pretty nice...

Otherwise, Yorkville, Peavey and Fender are making loud enough combos you can find at a low price, used...

Stop looking for pedals ! What you need is 200 watts !!!

One guy was talkin about compressors earlier so i looked into the DigiTech XBS Bass Squeeze Compressor Pedal. I thought that would tighten up my sound with the limiter and od. Let me know what you think

A compressor and a limiter are basically the same thing.

Its called compression when the signal is boosted to keep things even.

It's called limiting when the signal is not allowed to go higher than an assigned level.

Most compressors do both. Whether your signal is considered compressed or limited all depends upon the setting you select on your compressor.

+1.

At this point, pedals are a waste of time and money. Get a good combo. Peavey is making decent stuff these days. Haven't played Fender in a long time.

Yorkville combos are cheap, with really good power/sound.

Try the EBS pedal. I have both the EBS and the Boss, and I tend toward the Boss mainly due to it's construction (Boss pedals are bullet-proof, imho).

But he already has a Boss Limiter/Enhancer (read: compressor), so he doesn't need another compressor.

I think he'd really like the Digitech MultiChorus, if he's going to buy a pedal.

But, as previously stated, I think his amp needs to be relegated to the bedroom for practice. He needs an amp that can give him some real bottom end.

Wilke, I understand that money is a major factor, but spending bits and pieces on pedals and such is wasteful. If you already have enough for a new pedal, start saving some more dough and buy a decent used combo amp. The HC classifieds has great deals on great gear. Why don't you take a look and start asking some good amp questions. We'll point you in a good direction that will best fit your budget.

I was looking towrds the Ultrabass BB115 600 with the bx3000t unltra bass head. Ive heard these things are pretty decent and low priced. All together it would b 380. If there is anything better for punk music and is fairly cheap that would be perfect. Thanks
