Members Zothar
Recently purchased another GK cab w/o any Speakon. GK wants around $50.00 for a new one (including shipping). I remember reading somewhere that one should only use tha "official" GK Speakon with their amps? If this is true why? Also, I am running a 410 RBH already off of a 1001 RB using a Speakon. Can I run a quarter inch full range at the same time? Thanks for any advice!
Members james on bass
i wouldn't think you have to buy a GK speakon. Of course they recommend using their own parts, just as Chrysler, Ford and GM recommend using their own replacement parts and service centres for your car, when they know you can get something as good or better elsewhere for a lot less money. Members J the D
GK uses the NL-4 connection in a SPeakon plug to bi-amp. Lows to the woofer and highs to the tweeter. The way they wire it is, I understand, necessary to make bi-amping possible. While I don't think there would be a problem using any quality Speakon connector be sure to wire it exactly the way the GK speakon is wired. What you are paying for with them is not the cost of the connector but the cost of having it wired correctly.

The two-pronged Speakons will be full range only, just as 1/4" cables are. Do you need one from GK? No. Your local music shop may have a four-pronged Speakon cable and you could use that.
