Yeah, we were watching snippets of 'The Last Waltz' two nights ago and MAN did that guy sing with soul! Great voice with a killer sensibility! I have jazz playing friends old enough to remember seeing The Band backing Ronnie Hawkins on the Yonge St. strip in the early/mid sixties. Although these guys are total life-long jazz heads they admit that act was as good as it got. Smokin'!!
