Members Conformer
Went looking for a practice combo yesterday, you know a small portable amp that could be used in the computer room, and recording. Well local shop has a Ampeg BA-10 30 watter for $199.99. It sounded nice and played good. Yet, for 150 bucks more I could get a Fender Bassman 100. You know the new tiltback design with the eminece 10. Well I decided to compare them using a MIM 5 String Fender Jazz Bass. To be honest with you the Fender Bassman 100 didn't have the tone that little 30 watter Ampeg had. Volume wise it wasn't that much louder and didn't carry the lows has well. Kinda surprised. You think a 100 watter would blow away a 30 watt amp. Until I cranked that Bassman up to 8 I didn't notice a huge difference. I didn't find the Bassman's contour knob to be of much use and I had a hard time dialing in the EQ, were with the Ampeg it only took me a second to dial it in. Now I am really courious in maybe getting the Ampeg 50 or 100 watter combo's and seeing how they are. To be honest with you I am more impressed with the Fender Rumble 100 than I am with the new Bassman. NOTE: They do not make the Ampeg BA-110 anymore. I guess I will lay it away next week. I love mine and it is plenty versatile. Also, if it isn't enough power, you can run it into the PA via the XLR output. Only downside is it is a little hefty without casters (70 lbs)
Members lug
The BA-112 sounded significantly better than the BA-110 to my ears. A LOT more bottom.
