distortion source identification

howdy all.

i recently purchased a used, in "ecellent+" condition pedulla rapture J5 bass from elderly music. I ordered and recieved it just prior to going out of town on business for almost a month. I got back and actually started playing the bass to notice that when i played a note, especially a lower register note, there was a "fuzz" faintly in the background through the amp. at first i figured it was the battery which i changed to hear the same result. I then tried recording the bass through a DI box and got the same result. I checked cables, even used my other bass, fender jazz passive, through both the amp and the DI to make sure it was just the pedulla.

long story short, elderly's warrenty on used instruments is only 30 days, which i have failed to identify this problem before that expired.

any ideas on the source of my problem before i let some jerk off guitar center guy rip me off to fix this thing??

thanks guys

The Pedulla is active, right?

If your passive J doesn't do this, maybe the signal strength is to high on the Pedulla, or maybe it's an impedance issue.

does the distortion change when you play sofer/harder?

Pickups too high perhaps?

Definite possibility of an impedance mismatch, especially at the amps input stage. Try a buffer designed for active basses.

Also, have a peak in the cavity for some kind of tweakable gain controls.
