Members MrJoshua Posted July 30, 2005 Members Posted July 30, 2005 I'd say Manning as a first-rounder was a good move. Last year he put up a LOT of points - enough to put him in his own fantasy tier as far as QBs are concerned. I feel pretty good about my draft, but I took my third RB way too early. I should have waited much later, because of the RB/flex/WR/WR format.

Members illidian Posted July 30, 2005 Members Posted July 30, 2005 Looking over my line-up... Brooks of New Orleans (QB). Some are predicting this to be the Saint's break-out year, so I hope they do it by passing the football! 12th on Fox's page Bolden of Arizona (WR). Maybe he can be the number one guy for the Cardinals and get some yards? We'll see. 12th by Fox Mason of Baltimore (WR). I'll take this one. Even though he's not on a passing team, there's potential. 32nd by Fox McGahee of Buffalo (RB) will be splitting rushes. Meh. Thirteenth by Fox Gonzalez of Kansas City (TE). Nice pick, but probably taken way too early. Oh well. 2nd by Fox McCallister of New Orleans (RB). Looks like I've got the whole New Orleans offense. Let's hope they can make it happen! 6th by Fox Taylor of Jacksonville (RB). Probably would've have picked him, but he may be getting a lot of playing time. We'll see. 33rd by Fox McNair of Tennesee (QB). McNair hasn't done anything in how long now? Maybe he'll have some good games. 15th on Fox's page Buckhalter of Phily (RB). Why don't I remember this guy's name? 39th by Fox Galloway of Tampa Bay (WR). Who? 53rd by Fox Magnum of Carolina (WR). Probably third Wide Reciever or something. Worse than 75th by Fox Tynes of Kansas City (K). Yes, I have the entire Kansas City offense now - QB, RB, and K. 15th by Fox Kimrin of Tennessee (K). May be productive with the lack of the Titans' offense. 29th by Fox Indianapolis as the team defense. Can they do something this year? 5th by Fox I'll now read up on what all these guys are supposed to do this year and comment more. Anyone mind telling me that my team doesn't suck as much as I'm thinking it does right now? PS - I'll analyze it all later. Maybe it's good enough to not come in last in the League?

It really is too hard to tell anything about a team right now. I had what looked like a mediocre team last year but wound up winning the thing last year. Tiki Barber had a phenomenal year last year. He made my team.
Members MrJoshua Posted July 30, 2005 Members Posted July 30, 2005 You have a couple of guys that seem solid to me, and a few ... well, several ... that make me scratch my head a little. Still, I wouldn't worry too much. Nothing counts until the points start going up on the board.
Members zachoff Posted July 30, 2005 Members Posted July 30, 2005 Holy crap, I just picked up Ricky Williams after the draft!!! Yeah, he's suspended for four games, but man... Crazy. Once the preseason starts, I may have a better shot. Yea, some of the picks are solid, but some of them make me want to be angry at myself for missing the draft (I completely forgot about it, and was out buying some shorts).

Yeah, he's suspended for four games, but man... Crazy. My 2 cents... Not so crazy when you look at 1) the rules/starting requirements of this league, and 2) Ricky's situation with the Dolphins. He's no better than other RBBC players available. The phins drafted Brown with the #2 pick in the draft, and specifically picked a guy they feel can pound but also be useful catching out of the backfield and passing downs. He is a very versatile back, and one whose value is reached by playing in different formations and situations. His #2 draft position entails that he is paid exhorbitantly, and the 'phins paid a premium for that, and thus, he will play a great deal. Just like a few years ago, when Ahman Green was signed to a big contract in the offseason, and proven Dorsey Levens was still on the team, Dorsey Levens only was a backup and got some mop-up duty and relief for Green. The 'phins see Ricky as a 'can't hurt them' player, and they likely want him to prove to be at least a decent teammate so they can get some decent value from him in a trade. At the very best, Ricky would be getting roughly 50% of the carries SOME of the weeks. Ricky still needs to gain weight, and prove that he is committed to football after having quit on his teammates and his livelihood, and toking out for over a year. I think Ricky is certainly a decent pickup for depth on a roster if you have the space in this leage, but I don't think it's a steal by any means.
Members MrJoshua Posted July 30, 2005 Members Posted July 30, 2005 Ricky's an "iffy" pick. He could be valuable, but IMO, only if Ronnie Brown doesn't produce, and Brown will have four weeks to prove he can carry the load at RB. Having watched Ronnie run the last several years at Auburn, I have no doubt that Ricky is going to wind up sharing time at best, barring an injury or contract holdout from Ronnie.
Members Thunderbroom Posted July 30, 2005 Members Posted July 30, 2005 So does that mean that I did okay in drafting Brown? I picked him up as a backup to Shaun Alexander/Curtis Martin. I goofed there too because those guys both have Week 8 as a Bye.
Members burdizzos Posted July 30, 2005 Author Members Posted July 30, 2005 I'd have drafted Brown, he was on my short list. I think the odds are about even that the 'phins will keep Williams. Nick Saban has proven that he doesn't put up with too much crap from his players and given Ricky's history, I don't think he and the coach are going to be good friends.
Members Thunderbroom Posted July 30, 2005 Members Posted July 30, 2005 I drafted another rookie too: Heath Miller He's supposed to be the real deal at TE. I figured it couldn't hurt. A scoring TE is always a good thing and they seem to be rare. It's the reason that I drafted Antonio Gates last year. He, along with Tiki Barber, made my team.
