Before you see the pictures, as you all know, I have an extreme dislike for modern Ampeg gear. However, i've played enough of the older stuff to see that it's much more transparent, and less muddy than the modern day amps.

It's actually in pretty rough condition. I'm borrowing it for (at least) a year from a friend of my Dad's to fix it up. The power tubes aren't even the same kind, i've gotta get some replacement 7868s, which are somewhat hard to find (only EH makes new ones, and they're 50 bucks a pair! ). The input jacks are fairly shoddy, and it's overall just really dusty. The caps however don't look leaky at all, though, which is good. The original speaker seems to be in good condition, but farts out pretty easily. :( Might have to replace it with a Weber Ceramic Michican. It's also very staticy when overdriving, but almost nails the Jack Bruce sound with the volume dimed, the bass flat, and the treble all the way down. It's also not that loud, so it's perfect as a home practice amp. I'm also gonna take it down to the beach with me & my guitarist, so we can jam without being too loud.

Lets see...you're borrowing the amp for a year (under the assumption of fixing it up) yet you are going to take it to the beach?

It's staying in the apartment, but it makes a really nice clean guitar amp as well.

Hey Ox.....I guess you abandoned the speaker???Anyway,I have a very good tube contact that could possibly help you .He is very fair and honest in my dealings...and I basically have all tube amps except the gbe 600 and have bought gobes of NOS glass w/o any problems. You can get him through his site...tubetramp.com.Terry has owned several vintage ampegs and he will do whatever it takes to assist you.My preamp tubes for the 200 are siemens which really made a sweet difference,a recommendation by Terry! Good luck.

Nice, an old fliptop!

Now what you need is one of the elusive B-18's to run an out line into. DaBomb! A nice hollow body with some flats, and you can go brown-note hunting!

I thought that only lug could produce brown notes

I'm not ditching the speaker, as it's fine. It definately needs tubes. I'll check out tubetramp.com, but I found some EH 7868s for 50 bucks a pair, but i'll check out tubetramp anyways. Thanks. It also makes a sweet clean guitar amp. Like, really sweet. It's only 25 watts, so it doesn't get that loud, even with guitar, but that's probably because of the mismatched tubes. Once I get proper ones, i'll see how loud it gets.

you guys are not helping me supress my GAS. I mean, it is that place (and ebassist as well) why I am giving in and getting a T-40

I don't need another amp, I don't need another amp, I don't need another amp
