Members Rowka Posted August 1, 2005 Members Posted August 1, 2005 Wow, what a weekend. Venturawest came north to Jax to give some yadda yadda "in order to properly implant the Acme Super Ear Drainer you must be sure to make an incision...blah blah yadda whatever" seminar Thursday. He stayed an extra night to come Party with Rockstar. Very cool. Not only that, his very cool girl, Amy flew up Friday morning (after an all nighter in the ICU) to hang with us and Party with Rockstar. (pics coming soon) Well, the show started of great. High energy, good playing, lots of fun, you know. But then as the set went on, into the second set and into the third set our singer kept drinking and drinking. You could see his performance deteriorate as the night progressed. He'd forget words and stop singing mid-verse only to start up again a few measures later, with the wrong words. Venturawest and Amy were very kind, saying they didn't notice any issue and that they really enjoyed the show. I was totally embarrassed. The singer was told he {censored}ed up. {censored}ed up big time. If it ever happened again, if it ever "started" happening again, we'd have no qualms about canceling gigs while we found a new singer. Saturday at the bar he apologized and was himself embarrassed by his behavior the night before. We went on to play the best gig we've ever had. I wish Venturawest and Amy were here for THAT show.

My latest set of eardrum tubes were installed in '99. Without these I can't go 6 months without getting an ear infection that hurts so much it makes me puke. In '98 I didn't have insurance so every 6 weeks I was going to an ear doc so he could poke holes in my eardrum at $100 a whack. That really sucked. That's always the way it happens. One time I went to a weekend camping/music fest (camp Creek). I got so trashed I got undressed and crawled into the wrong tent. Of course a friend of mine deeply involved in AA showed up and camped with us. It was just embarassing all around. My wife and the people who's tent I had crawled into had fun ribbing me all weekend though.
Members basshunter Posted August 1, 2005 Members Posted August 1, 2005 Sounds like fun Rowka, glad the singer got his {censored} together.... ANd yeah, I've crawled into the worong tent before too:rolleyes:

No, it wasn't anything like that at all, honest! Geez you guys. Besides I don't think my wife would've been in too joking a mood if that's what really happened. Besides, you didn't see the big hairy biker dude who owned that tent.

Members venturawest Posted August 1, 2005 Members Posted August 1, 2005 well, i was gonna start my OWN thread, but i'll jump on this one for now... first of all: MAD PROPS to rowka and mrs. rowka for the incredible hospitality this weekend. hung out with us all weekend, shuttled us around, and just generally showed us an awesome time. (which means, by the by, this is now *twice* - which means next time, in miami, and i play host!) we absolutely had a blast. you will never, in my opinion, meet a more solidly grounded and likeable couple than rowka and the mrs. but i digress. so friday we went to the show. and i LOVED it. my girlfriend was about ready to leave me for any member of the hair metal crew. yeah, the singer got trashed, and it became obvious by the second set, because he literally tripped over monitors and forgot lyrics here and there. but here's the thing - the band, including singing, ROCKED. i mean, absolutely fantastic - great sound, great stage presence, and most of all a great *show*. one of the valuable things i learned is apparently all those times i thought i played a crappy show and everyone said "you couldn't even tell, i thought you guys were great", they actually might be telling the truth! we really couldn't tell the detailed things that rowka noticed. for real. i loved it, and we thought the band was overall amazing. everyone has off nights. i would love to see a show that rowka felt better about, but keep this in mind: your "off" night was incredible. so now we have a goal: get ROCKSTAR to come and do a few shows in miami. i need a press kit.... major ups again to rowka and the mrs. for showing us such a tremendous time. i consider myself fortunate now to call them good friends. PICS!!!!
