Serves me right for playing Natalie Merchant I guess.

Disconnect it if you can. 'Tis a bass amp after all ;)

Seriously, I could do that and probably never miss the thing.

But the thought that my amp is broken akin to the feeling of having a tiny pebble in my shoe.

Well, GC has a generous return policy.

When you go there, give the B100R a try. It doesn't have a tweeter, see what you think.

Less powerful eq than the BA, but it sounds damn fine :)

trust me, it isn't broken. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is normal for a BA115 to buzz with the treble turned up. But if you must, take it back to GC and see what their inexperienced people think.

Man, this buzz is loud. It's not a faint hum or a hiss. I mean, with the treble @ 1200, it's unbearable. It's a pity too because it just sounds so good. Anyway, if GC offers a refund I'll take it buy something else that is not in the BA line.

Does the noise decrease or stop if you unplug the bass? Try it in another circuit or in a friend's house, to eliminate the possibility that it's a noisy power circuit. Also, remove any wall-wart power supplies nearby or especially on the same circuit.

The overwhelming majority of electronics failures will occur within the first few hours of use. That's why critical (read: $$$$) devices get 'burned in', which is nothing more than running the device through its paces for a few days.

The tweeter should not be that loud. I've played scads of them, new and used and never heard anything like that (could be blown tweeters, lol). Ampeg has a 5-year warranty. But GC will exchange or refund you.

don't write off the entire BA line of stuff because of the 115. IME, the 115 is the only one that I have heard has a noisy tweeter. Also, I would try a different 115 if the buzz is that bad, because it really is a great amp. Only problem is that it lacks tubes. :o:mad:

+1 Also make sure you are using a real instrument cable and not a speaker cable between the bass and amp.

I have a Ampeg certified repairman disconnect the tweeters and horns in my amps when I get them to keep the warranty intact and because I hate tweeters and horns in a bass amp

hmmmm, this might e worth checking into. I wonder if they could put a switch in to switch it on and off without voiding the warranty

I'd rather see a pot to control the level going to it like on many speaker boxes.

Okay let me catch up on the trouble shooting tips brought forward (thanks BTW).

I tried it with my EBMMand my Jazz. On the Jazz I soloed and 50/50d the pups. Still buzzing. I changed cables. Disconnected high gain effects and all that. What I haven't done is move it to another outlet.

About the amp: I haven't used alot of amps but this by far is the best I have heard that does not do serious damage to 10 Benjamins. I love the Marianas trench lows and the Everest highs of this thing. if not for this malfunction I think it will be perfect for a low to medium volume hobbyist like me.

If it didn't change with all of your changing around, I have to say that it is the amp and that it isn't broken. But I have gotten used to the buzzing, unless I have the style switch on 5 and the trebles and mids all the way up.
