Members basshunter Posted August 2, 2005 Members Posted August 2, 2005 ...have been hanging around my yard far too much lately. Yesterday afternoon I went to let them out and there was a yearling sitting just off the porch. After gettign the dogs safely back in, I went out and yelled at it. It looked at me. I roared at it and it slowly walked away...but then it walked through my garden so I got really mad and started following it yelling at it. It was relatively unimpressed although clearly wasn't thrilled with all of the yelling disturbing its quiet afternoon. Here are some pics I took as it left my yard and went over to the neighbors where it spent a half hour lurking around in their garage.

Scared me {censored}less. I'm 15 minutes deep into the woods with two dogs, a bear cub up a tree and no idea where momma bear is. I grabbed the dogs, looked back towards home, could see that momma bear wasn't in that direction (the woods are thinner there) and bolted. You never run away from a bear, but once I knoew we weren't between mom and cub, we were in the clear. She would go for the cub first.

I would have let my Poodle stay out there to show momma bear who's boss...

Because their top speed is quite a bit faster than yours. WHen you run, you become "prey", and they WILL run you down. Your best bet is to "make yourself large" be noisy, and walk slowly away but do not turn your back on the bear.

Have smorgasboy talk to it; if it doesn't go to sleep the whining will definitely drive it away.
