Bass wiring help needed! DESPERATE!!!

Band competition is next week, 10th August and I have just had my bass RE-wired according to this.

It is all wrong, giving me pretty much zero useable sounds and I have buggerall time left :(

I am running two Bartolini dual-coil pickups (neck Soapbar, bridge MM4). Previously I had wired it up myself using the same diagram above and somehow managed to get things working kinda well, albeit apparently wrong. It had the following combinations I NEED TO GET BACK!

- Neck HB series (P-like)

- Neck HB parallel (P-like)

- Neck SC (unknown but ok)

- A neck combination somehow out of phase (weird but handy for noise)

- Bridge HB series (Ric-like)

- Bridge SC (Jazz like)

- Bridge HB Parallel (MusicMan sound)

- Another SC sound

I had no combinations of pickups, and after now tasting some, I am not really sure I want them at all. These pickups match ok, but the combinations yielded after recent mods are yucky.

It now only has a 2 position switch, and sounds like the pickups are wired out of phase with themselves. The guitar tech who wired it seems to be pretty majorly confused by Bartolini's choice of wire colour scheme here.

QUESTIONS:

1. Can anyone tell me if the first diagram will really give me what I want above, with or without combinations of both?

2. Is the fact that I don't have a 3 position switch the problem?

3. Is "The Dual Humbucker" (scroll) what I am really after?

4. If so, then will the push-pull pots suffice as switches described in this mod?

Any other thoughts?

Heeeeeelp!!

Right off the bat, no, this diagram will not do what you want. Note that the "finish" of each pickup is permanently connected. Each pickup is a large series circuit, no way to parallel it to make it a parallel humbucker. Each pickup is essentially a large center-tapped single coil winding, which is sort of how it's described.

I have other issues with the circuit, but since it doesn't do what you want, there's no point in going into that.

OK, cool that's got that answered, thanx Craig :)

So will the second diagram attached do what I want, and will I be able to wire that up using the existing push-pull setup as if they were simply the 2 position switches?

I wish I had never changed the wiring now :(

Yeah, that one looks like it'll actually work and make sound. Note that S1 is a 4-pole switch. I'm not sure you'll find a 4-pole push-pull pot.

Methinks for now I will be wiring her up as best I can:

- Neck HB sound I need

- Bridge HB in series (or whatever it was)

I will have a week or so to have it sorted out after that.

Grumph, grumble, switches and phase and feckin series, parallel... grumble grumble...

Well, here goes. Going home now to see if I can't straighten this stuff out. I have downloaded and printed a bunch of stuff out.

If I can't make half a grain of salt of sense out of the mess, then I am a completely lost cause.

Wish me luck!
