Members Nixon Neighbor
Who uses tweeters? why or why not? What kind?
Members PaulyWally
I do. Don't know what kind. Probably a compression driver. It's in my Ampeg combo. I don't know what I would do without that high end. I don't like the muddiness of a cab that cannot capture those high overtones. It just adds to the overall character of the sound. Members greenshag
I don't, as I use quite a bit of overdrive/distortion, and with using that effect, the tweeter on my eden makes it very harsh...turning it off gives a nice fuzz... Members chugheshc
my big cabinet has a horn in it. I like the extra crispy sound, miss it when I use my single 15.C.
Members bassplayer7770
I use the tweeter in my Eden CX110 cab. I just like that snap it gives my sound when I need it. Without it, it seems like my tone has less life...
Members fastplant
My SWR 2x10 cab has a tweeter in it. The cool thing is you can turn down just the tweeter on it if you want. I usualy have it 1/2way on .
Members ARES
I need a tweeter. I usually roll off a little treble on the bass, leave it flat or slightly boosted on the amp, and then roll back the attenuator a little. This gives my tone a little bite without sounding harsh. Even my small practice amp has one.
Members bnyswonger
I'd rather have my balls yanked off and stuffed down my throat than play througha compression driver.
Members miles to go
My Eden 115 has one. Depending on the room, I usually attenuate it a bit, but leave it on for a little snap. My home-made 112 has a 5" cone driver for mids and highs as suggested by burdizzos. It's less harsh than most tweeters. But, I need to add an L-Pad as I think it overpowers the woofer. Members wakefyld45
my bergantino 210 has one but It does not get harsh, just adds that airy top end, but then again thats how the cab is designed. But i use it all the time.

Members bville
The one on my SWR 4X10 sounds very good. It helps define the sound and I don't have to yank the strings off the fretboard when I slap or pop. I'm not in the business of making audience members soil themselves courtesy of a muddy bass tone. The tweeter is just another tool to make you sound clear, it is not a demonic tone killer.
Members lug
I'd rather have bnyswonger's balls yanked off and stuffed down his throat than play without a compression driver. Seriously, By attenuating the tweeter signal, you can always find a nice balance between "harsh" and "thump"
Members MrJoshua
I have a 2x10 with a tweeter, but I keep the tweeter turned off. I like the sound of the 10s by themselves.
Members 76blacktbird
I disconnect the tweeters. I also use a distorted tube sound and prefer it without.
Members BEAD
In my last band I used the tweeter in my Avater 2x12. I ran a lot of really ugly distortion for a lot of the songs. The guitar player had a lot of distortion as well, and deeply scooped his mids, and played too loud, and ran a 4x12 on top of a 2x15 loaded with car audio subs. In this situation, having a really abrasive compression horn helped me cut through on the high end of the mix a bit and actually sounded pretty good. My current band plays nice and sounds nice, so while I may use a fair bit of distortion from time to time, the tweeter stays off as we aren't really trying to punish the audience (or ourselves) with sound. Members megadan
I keep the tweeter on my avatar 2x10 just barely on, and it sounds good, esp on the high stings of the J bass... nice zing But any higher than like "1" or "2" and it sounds like evil ear piercy garbage. Members bassman1956
I don't use it on the WM15. I do, but attenuated, on the Mesa 2x10.
Members Phantasm
All my cabs have tweeters (Eden and SWR Henry 8x8.) I leave 'em flat. I ain't afraid of a little high end.

Members crabfunk
I have a tweeter in my Nemesis 2x10. For an inexpensive cab, it's pretty smooth, but it can get pleasantly grindy if I push it with active electronics and such.
Members Benjamin
I am going to replace the horn in my 4x10 with a 5" also. Can anyone give me a quick calc of the type and power handling of 5" I need? Running 4x10" Aminence Betas, total 4ohm. Need a crossover?
