Warwick thumb: neck through or bolt on?

Don't know. Never played the bolt-on series. I owned 2 neck thru Thumbs - a 4 and a 6. The 4 was okay, but I had no remorse selling it - the 6 was awesome and I regret to this day selling it.

I prefer neck-thru basses myself, though I haven't owned one in a number of years.

That is a lot of money difference. Is that the only difference between the two? For me, the extra money could go towards a lot of other things and I could live with a bolt-on version.

If I was going to buy a Thumb, I'd definitely get a neck thru. All of the bolt on's that I've played have had too much neck dive for my tastes. The neck thru's were a different story, nice instruments!

And welcome!

Which london shop?? If its the bass centre then try the bolt on and through neck. The through neck they had in there 2 weeks ago was easilly the best warwick I have ever played. It destroyed the bolt on in every respect, if you can afford the thru then go for it. For my hands and ears it easilly whopped the bolt on, same goes for any warwick I've played. The thrus are worth the extra mullah!

For Warwick, I prefer the little sound tweak that the bolt ons have compared to the neck thrus. As to bolt on thumbs neck dive, theres two versions of the bolt on thumb 4 string. One is narrow neck, the other isnt. The former doesnt dive, the latter does somewhat. MF carries the narrow neck version. Dunno about the place your useing.

bass cellar is ok but I would reccomend the bass centre. www.basscentre.com (near liverpool street) and the www.thebassgallery.com (Camden) Both are tricky to get to so take a map! Trust me its more than worth it when you find them.

Both are great and more than willing to let you try out gear if you are looking to purchase at some time. Dont waste their time and you can build a great relationship with the guys that run the places.

If you can wait and live anywhere near Reading Im starting as head of the bass department in a new store opening in a few weeks. 15 warwicks on order with BO and thr thumbs. Just a thought.
