That's advertising stuff.

Technically, the list price on that from Alembic would probably be right up there....of course, no one actually pays list for anything, much less Alembic basses. Although, the price actually paid was probably many thousands.

Cocobolo is a type of wood (I forget which species). Has a nice full and round tone. Kind of an overall sound. Check Ken Smith's website or warmoth for a more in depth description.

Anotherof those gross looking and grossly overpriced instrumentsby alembic. A coany whose instruments never impressed me in person or when hearing someone play one on album or at a show. Stanley Clark could have sounded much better with a diff mfg basses for much less cost imo.

Alembics are polarizing. I liked the one I played a lot(and it was their most basic model.) It blew away almost all of the Fenders in the shop. Other people hate them. Why? I don't know. Maybe they sound so much unlike the typical Fender paradigm that most people just clam up after hearing them. I enjoy their unique designs, and the fact that you can get so many tones out of them. Would SC been better off sticking with the Gibson EB-2 that he was playing before his Alembics? I think not.

Coco Bolo is a relative of rosewood and padouk, and the dust does cause an allergic reaction in some, but it's a great tonewood. The wood on that bass is not the best example (I think it's ugly), but they've built a lot of instruments that look a lot better.

I believe it's the 2nd hardest known wood in the world. Not very porous. Mostly cultivated in Cuba and the Carribean (not sure about the rest of the world). I've seen clubs made out of them. Nearly as hard as a metal pipe at about 1/3 the weight.

And no... I didn't see them only because they were being swung at me. :D

I'd rock it. Speaking of costing a ton of money, has anyone here checked the price on the pickups (including the preamp and everything that comes on Alembics)? It starts at like 800$ or something, totally insane. However, I find it funny how many people bitch about the prices, including myself... I want one like Stanley's, yet they are still making basses. So, obviously, someone is willing to bite down and pay for it.

Is that right???!!

Pretty fugly.

I don't even know what Coco Bolo is.

A very nice looking bass but way too much {censored} on board.

Simpler is better IMNSHO.

Even if I had the deniro, I would neve pat 30 grand for a bass. For that kind of money it better do everything and I mean EVERYTHING. ;)
