Members flatcat
I like Rain. Also Penny Lane is a really fun one to play, I think that one might be my favorite. Fixing A Hole is good too. Actually, Sgt Pepper might not be as great a record as everyone seems to think, but it definitely has a lot of really fun bass parts on it (Getting Better, A Little Help From My Friends, Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite!, Lovely Rita, even A Day In The Life has a cool bass part, interesting anyhow, fits great). A lot of that mid-period stuff, from 1966-67, is really fun to play, from Revolver and the singles around it through to the White Album. Ah, it's all fun. That band makes me happy. Members Slats
The Beatles are my all time favorite band so all the above! All My Loving, for a nice rock/walking bass line. Nowhere Man for a pretty, melodic bass. Drive My Car, Day Tripper, good basic rock lines. I'd suggest getting the book ' The Beatles Complete Scores' It's a big fat white book that has all the instruments notated, and the bass usually has the notation and the tab. I find it to be very accurate. Very well done. Congratulations on such a good choice of what to work on next, and all the suggestions are GREAT! There can't be a bad one! Members Kiwiburger
Macca is the man. I think 'Birthday' is a really fun bassline - bass solo and all. For years i've played considered 'Come Together' an example of great bass tone. The bass is so lush sounding. I've always thought it was in the key of E, and played it on the low E string. The other night I actually listened to the song while I had my bass - and I was surprised to hear it in D. No problem - the Beatles are known for different tunings, so I dropped the E to D. That clearly didn't sound right - and then I realised he is actually playing right up the neck. Basically an octave higher than I thought he was - and yet the bass on the root D is so phat. I believe for 'Abbey Road' was using the black nylon Rotosound Tru Bass flat wound strings. They certainly get you in the ball park. I have a set, but the E strings seems to rattle internally. I've read complaints about Rotosound that their quality control isn't so good, so you might need to buy a few sets to get a good one. Also, if you need to connect your body to earth through the strings to stop hum, this won't happen with nylon covered strings. You would need to suck on a wire or something to earth yourself. I find Thomastic Jazz flats are pretty good and close enough for Macca sounds.

Members nicebigstrings
My hands-down fave is 'Ticket To Ride'. It was the only time they attempted a Motown-type song and they totally hit it out of the park (or the cricket pitch as the case may be). I felt somewhat vindicated a few years back to find out it was Lennon's favorite song of all he wrote.

That band makes me happy. That's my favorite period too, overall. They were at a creative peak and still liked each other a lot. I think it shows how Brian Epstein really was the glue that held them together through the perils of fame. Once he died and they started taking on their own direction (or misdirection) of running the "Biz" side of things, it went downhill. Abbey Road was definitively the ideal album for a band like them to dissolve after. And I agree with your last statement. They still make me happy.
