I'm confused, and have some vocal questions.
:confused::(

Sorry, you're just gonna have to type your questions on the keyboard like the rest of us.

But, I don't know how to type! :mad:

Actually, that reminds me... I think I've found the only real downside to using dvorak. I'm going to start working again, and I really doubt they'll let me use it instead of qwerty. :( So, I'll have to retrain myself in lame ol' qwerty again. :(

Since there are no vocal forums though, I'll just ask here... The majority of the music I listen to has heavily effected vocals (harsh, dancy electronic music), but I don't have the slightest clue how to get that kind of sound myself. Are there any good places for info about vocal effects, etc?

It sounds like your question has more to do with effects than actual vocals anyway so you might try over on the recording forum. Just a thought.

Could be, I've never tried. That's not really the problem though. :p

There was this dopey thing that Page/Plant did a while back... THey were (supposedly) sitting in the woods, Page playing guitar and Plant singing, with a lapful of Boss stompboxes. Truth be told, the vocals SUCKED out loud!

Which brings me back to the original thought I had for Stevey...

Believe it or not, this almost falls in the category of an 'ancient chinese secret'. (For those who are too young to remember, this comment comes from a laundry soap ad, ca. 1973 or so).

Producers know how to do it.

Best thing one can do while recording is to take the signal and the basic idea the singer (or player) has about what it is supposed to sound like and send that to the singer's (player's)N monitor or headphones. The sound they are getting WILL drive what they do. Meanwhile though, you only record the dry signal.

Later on you do the post-production mixdown work and add anything to it that is needed. (OR, add it and find out it's NOT needed, and scrap it!) But you still havethe original take to play with.

This approach is actually MUCH more affordable than countless do-overs while searching for the 'perfect' sound.

I've got very little experience with effects at all, and not much more experience recording vocals... I'm not really looking for advice on effects to be recorded, just info about effects to put onto vocals afterward (and possibly live).

D Aussie, I got a notice that my PM box was full when you tried to send me something; sorry about that. You've confused me even more by your reply here, but at least my box is clean! :):confused:

Here's a mashed-up mp3 (1.5MB) of some examples of the type(s) of thing(s) I'm curious about.

I just don't know how one would go about effecting vocals to sound anything like that. :(

It would be nice, yes. I perused the other forums for similar topics, and saw a lot of chatter about people wondering where the vocal forum was and/or why there wasn't one.
