Members der oxenrig Posted August 9, 2005 Members Posted August 9, 2005 Anybody used them at one point? Here are the specs for them.
Members bnyswonger Posted August 9, 2005 Members Posted August 9, 2005 They're better than any 15" you've ever used. I like the 145's better (they go up a little higher & beefier construction) , but the 140's are excellent as well. They are more efficient than most modern speakers so you'll get a lot of sound out of your amps. Two of them will fill any stage with low end.

(by the way the cab is a Sunn 215B, just like chunkathalon's)

I don't know if it's a good deal because you didn't state the price. Right now I've got one each K145 & E145 in my cabs, and I've got a spare K145 I had reconed about 10 years ago...still waiting for one of the other two to lock up. They are extremely tough mofos - a lifetime speaker if you will.

The dude's gonna sell it to me for 300 bucks, AND deliver it to my door next time he's in Maryland. Definately not bad, eh? EDIT: Here's a picture of it:
Members speddling Posted August 9, 2005 Members Posted August 9, 2005 Tell Ray I said hello. Did you turn him on to the Classic 400? You didn't tell me it was a tweed like mine!

You didn't tell me it was a tweed like mine! Yeah, I turned him onto it. I forgot to mention it was a Tweed one. That amp just has wayy too much power. I felt the notes before I heard them! So did everyone else in the store. And when I tried putting it up to 5 just once, the 412TVX it was attached to screamed in pain (and not in a good way, either!) I sure hope your Schroeders can handle it! But anyways, I found it for him, and that's why he's holding the Sunn cab for me!
Members KeroseneTrewthe Posted August 9, 2005 Members Posted August 9, 2005 AudioVox or Radioshack speakers would sound good if youre into distortion.

Two of them will fill any stage with low end. the 130's are generally used for pa bins and guitar amps, the 140's are arguably the best bass guitar speakers ever made, also used for pa but don't ave the extended top end or efficiency of the 130's but better lows; the 145's are less efficient than both the others but go considerably deeper than either....
Members Cortfan Posted August 9, 2005 Members Posted August 9, 2005 Once you go JBL, you never come back. I have 2- D-140's in one of my Bassman cabs, and 2-K-140's in my other cab. Nothing finer. And they do not like distorsion, just low, heart thumpin, wall shakin bass tones. Good used ones go for about $150 on ebay all the time.
Members bikehorn Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 as i recall the E series was a somewhat updated version of the D series, which would make the E140 an evolution of the D140. You may recall that the D140 made an appearance in the Sunn 2000S 2x15 cabinet, the one whose plans i sent you. i.e., go for the goddamn gold.

I remember my black widow not sounding too good with distorsion, but I think that's more the kevlar in the speaker cone.
Members bnyswonger Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 I play a ratt through mine all the time... smooth like buttah. You don't really know what it feels like to be a bass player till you rock a good pair of 15's. Get it.

Members der oxenrig Posted August 10, 2005 Author Members Posted August 10, 2005 Originally posted by bnyswonger Well, it's distortion...what the {censored} do you mean, then? I mean, does it sound nasty, or would it get a sound similar to in my clips, just louder with more bottom end?
Members bnyswonger Posted August 10, 2005 Members Posted August 10, 2005 Originally posted by The Ox I mean, does it sound nasty, or would it get a sound similar to in my clips, just louder with more bottom end? They're better speakers & move a lot more air than a weber, if that's what you mean. Can't you try it out? If you want more bottom, perhaps diming your mids and bass on zero isn't the answer...

I don't really need anymore bottom end, but it would be nice.
