Members PaulyWally
Have you ever read a Mackie manual? Quite entertaining, indeed. Here are some excerpts from the 1604-VLZ Pro manual: Whenever a specific 1604-VLZ PRO component is mentioned, it'll be in all capital letters sans-serif type. For example: The quick brown fader jumped over the RUDE SOLO LIGHT. 29 - Mono Level So, Mr. Mono comes running back, screaming about the mono mix being so loud that his camcorder is melting. Just reach for this knob and turn it down a bit. 33 - Power Switch If this one isn't self-explanitory, we give up. 34 - Power LED You've probably already figured this out, but if the POWER switch is on, the LED will light. If the switch is off, well, you get the idea. If the POWER switch is on and the LED does not glow, one of three things has happened: Somebody tripped over the power cord and yanked if from the outlet, your electricity has been turned off due to nonpayment, or the fuse has blown. You won't have to check it here and check it there like on some other mixers. In fact, some don't even have any reference to actual dB levels at all! Ever seen those "0-10" fader markings? We call these AUM's (Arbitrary Units of Meaurement), and they mean nothing in the real world. You were smart - You bought a Mackie. 54 - Main Mix Fader ...This is the fader to pull down at the end of the song when you want "The Great Fade Out". 66 - RUDE SOLO LIGHT ...It is especially handy at 3:00 in the morning when there is no sound coming from your monitors, even though your multitrack is playing back like mad. 69 - Aux Sends (Master) This knob goes from off, to unity gain, with 10dB of extra gain. You may never need the additional gain. But if you do, you'll be glad you bought a Mackie. This is usually the knob you turn up when the lead singer glares at you, points at his stage monitor, and sticks his thumb in the air. (It would follow suit that if the singer stuck his thumb down, you'd turn the knob down. But that never happens.) That's enough for now... maybe I'll post more tomorrow. One night, he's tapped to run monitors for the Vince Neil show. Soundcheck goes okay - no major hassles. When the show starts, though, Vince is over at the monitor desk during every guitar break, screaming what sounds like "MO HAH!" and pointing at the monitors. After the third such incident, Chad turns to the road manager with a confused look on his face. The manager leans in and hollers "Turn up the highs, man; Vince can't hear nothin' above 5K!" Mo hah.
