GK 400RB + Ashdown ABM 2x10 cab = happy marriage?

I have the opportunity to get a 2x10 ABM cab from my local store at a really good price for Cyprus standards (im a pretty good customer, got my Ibanez and Ashdown combo from them, plus the usual array of supplies)

So, is an ABM cab a good partner for a GK head? Past experiences anyone?

Coincidentally enough, I just tried one (ABM 210 w/ a ABM 500 Evo II head). I thought it had good punch and prescence, but I could hear the speakers straining to push out the lows, even on a 4 string. Plus, it has no tweeter control, though the high end was anything but excessive. I liked the 410 better, YMMV. It should pair up reasonably well with your GK as long as you have something else to carry the low-lows.

Can you bring your GK into the store to try out?

Yeah i'll probably do that. I mean, the idea is for me to get a 2x10 and 1x15 rig going. If I can get a really good 2x10 for a good price i'll jump on it, then get a 1x15 later.

But what im wondering, how good are ABM cabs anyway?

Bump? Any other past experiences with ABM cabs? How well do they sit in the mix?

Only time I've used them was at NAMM, and that was some exotic custom bass with an ABM 500 head to boot. It was a 4x10/1x15 setup. Sounded a lot better than the MAG/MAG setup I have, at any rate.

I had a 210 MAG with black celestion speakers. Great sound, lacked booty. It screamed to be used in conjunction with a 15". Been there, done that. Sold it and got 1 GOOD cab.

Personally: If you want to build a dream rig with that GK I'd look for an efficient 4x10. One that will punch, kick and crumbles the place down... The 4 ohm version of the SWR Goliath would be a good match. It has a tad high power rating though.

Q: if it's a really good deal they are offering you, isn't it possible to buy it and sell it privatly with some profit? You know: ebay, local adds,... Or are you the only bass player in Cyprus?

The bass player market is pretty small here in Cyprus... most people (i.e. kids, or on-the-side people) gravitate to small/medium combos, and the few pros here usually simply get stuff abroad and have it shipped over. Which i don't want to do with a cab.

SWR, Eden, Ampeg and most brands you can think of are either unheard of here, or stupidly overpriced. I happen to know the Ashdown dealer pretty well, which means me getting a decent price for it.

I've also been looking at Peavey, but the TVX series 4x10 is just waay too heavy for me. I'm not gonna be playing stadiums or anything here, small clubs are the order of the day (which is why I don't need anything more than the GK that I have)

I've got the opportunity now for that ABM at pretty much the same price as a MAG 2x10. I'm just curious to see if it's a good companion for my GK, and if it cuts through the mix better than the MAG... Adding a ''15 later from the same dealership is easy for me.

Thanks for the comments so far guys, keep em coming!
