Members bassman1956 Posted August 13, 2005 Members Posted August 13, 2005 I've been waiting for that Roland Cube 30 I got from eBay to arrive. And waiting. Won the auction July 27th. Sent a Cashier's Check via registered mail, they signed for receipt on 8/1. Just got off the phone with them. They haven't shipped it. Seems they've been waiting for the Cashier's Check to clear! WTF? Is there any notice on their auctions about this policy? No! Did they tell me when I talked to them about payment? No! Did they answer the emails I sent via eBay, even though their page says in big bold print, "IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS PLEASE CONTACT US VIA EBAY AND WE WILL RESPOND PROMPTLY"? No! You know, they may be great people. The guy sure seems nice enough on the phone. And it very well may be an excellent item in great shape (although at over 3 weeks out I don't have it in my hands yet to tell). But this kind of thing just builds bad customer relations! And if I had known this up front, I might have paid in a different fasion, like USPS MO.

I just ordered the series Horatio Hornblower on DVD from Amazon and I decided to order a used set for about 10 bucks cheaper than the new. I received a bootleg! I immediately wrote and informed Amazon but I haven't received a reply as yet. Lesson, don't order expensive CD or DVD sets from Amazon that are 'used'. Never again for me.
Members mike fitzwell Posted August 13, 2005 Members Posted August 13, 2005 I know this isn't quite the same, but if it makes you feel any better, I was paid with USPS MOs for a few items last time I sold some stuff on ebay. I took them to my bank to get cashed and they had to hold them for 10 working days to make sure they cleared. The teller told me it's their policy now since they've run across alot of counterfeits lately. I wasn't very happy, but from now on it's Paypal only for me when i sell on ebay.
Members bassman1956 Posted August 13, 2005 Author Members Posted August 13, 2005 Yeah, Mike, I've about consigned myself to PayPal... But for bigger things, I like taking the money directly out of the account and into a check, and it's done! I don't like floating stuff like that on PayPal or VISA or whatever. Mainly, I just think it's rather rude of them NOT to put something on their pages about it. They should state up front, 3 extra weeks for CC/MO.
Members hawkhuff Posted August 13, 2005 Members Posted August 13, 2005 I think the whole point of the money order and the cashiers check is so that a check wouldn't have to clear. What the hell kind of bank would not clear a postal money order or bank draft? A {censored}ed up bank, that's for sure, it is their legal tender. I would be very suspicious if they conveyed that to me and I agree, if the seller's bank does do something like this it should be stated as such, up front during the auction. It would only be apropriate. Paypal works well too. I have used it on several occasions and it does speed up the transaction.
