Don't do it, especially since your taking a drug just to write a song which is very stupid. Take a break from music and come back when inspiration hits. Zappa never did any drugs and he was.... well, he's {censored}ing Frank Zappa.

I had a friend once, who was really into Ecstacy, Weed, and LSD. He knew that I wasn't into any of that, and it wasn't even an issue between us.

He told me one time, "Don't worry about it dude...I take drugs to have {censored}ed up thoughts. You have those anyway, you don't need anything extra." ;)

That being said, I would never do it.

trust me, it'll be the stupidest, most childish song you've ever come up with. i know from experience.

and a big plus one to the FZ comment.

my suggestion, go read a book - something you ordinarily wouldn't read. you need a different way to open those creative valves.

You *must* be naked. If not, your just wasting your time. Also: Try checking out books from the 70s (by authors like Heinlein) for some inspiration aswell. Hey, If Neil Peart can steal ideas from Aynn Rand, you can too.

A really bad reason to try a drug once. If you smoke pot recreationally some, then of course one will experiment with playing etc while high at times. But being worried about doing drugs and deciding will try it once to see if improves song writing. Is pretty much a gauranteed setup for failure and not enjoyed high.

If your thinking of something like extasy, shrooms or acid, youll just give yourself a bad trip that way. Everyone with any experience (myself included) would pretty much say your first time is done with no agenda except to have some kind of pleasant experience & chill time.

Go learn to meditate instead.

Well then I guess the bulk of artists in the rock and roll canon are not 'real artists' then :p

This brings to mind that Bill Hicks routine...

Drugs are fun to do at practice when you are just {censored}ing around. We'll all hit the bowl and play and see what we come up with. We record ever practice, so sometimes there's some good stuff, sometimes its horrible. when we play a show, however, its all business. Maybe a beer or two before we hit the stage, but we try to stay as sober as possible.

BG - you're worried because you know it's a bad idea....

and it is....

here's an exercise....

go pick up a piece of bark off a tree...a larger size.

find a place where you will not be disturbed at all for an hour....

sit with the bark and feel it, look at it, touch the roughness, think about where it came from, in other words just meditate on it for 1/2 - 1 hour. Nothing else but the bark. When other thoughts come in just let float in and out. Return to the bark.

I guarantee you if you do this, it will be an amazing and possibly life changing experience.

Free, no health or legal risks, no hangover....but a trip for real.a..

leave the drugs alone....who needs it...c-d
