Members Archon_113 Posted August 13, 2005 Members Posted August 13, 2005 All of the 5 strings I've played have sounded muddy and unclear on the B string, but I've been offered an Ibanez EDA905, which has a passive humbucker and an active piezo pickup. What I want to know is, will the extra mids/treble from the piezo stop the bass sounding muddy in the lower register? And does anyone have any clips of a 5 string with a piezo?
Members bassmanjones Posted August 13, 2005 Members Posted August 13, 2005 Just from experience trying it in the store, the piezo's on those Ibanez's are absolutely horrible - they sound like half dead cats scratching a mole's eyes out. Anyway, the cheaper the bass (generally) the worse the B string. Want a great sounding B string, you have to shell out some money. Otherwise, passable fixes might be a lighter gauge B string and cutting some of the low bass on the EQ.
