Members beav2k2 Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I hate System of a Down. I think their "music" is a crap. I beleive they're (at least the guitarist) talented, but what they play just sounds horrible to me. I think their "bassist" is a joke after reading his interview in the new Bass Guitar Magazine in comparision to the Guitar World/Player/One where the guitarist was interviewed. Please tell me I'm not alone...
Members Zebra Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I've seen a few recordings of them live, and IMO the drummer is the only really good one. The rest of them range from pretty OK to horrible when playing live. Their stage antics tend to be real stupid too. They all sound good on the recordings, but everyone does on recordings. The vocals (especially the duets) are intensely bad live, at least the ones I've seen. The rest I don't know about, but I generally like their CDs.
Members sunburstbasser Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I enjoy them but a lot of people don't. The singer is excellent in the studio, I haven't heard his live stuff yet.
Members bikehorn Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 i hate SOAD. i just don't {censored}ing "get" their music. it's whiny, annoying nu-metal that was supposed to die 5 years ago. i don't see the virtosity in their guitarist like everyone claims to. and i can't believe people think they're the "return of metal". gah. they're up there with Radiohead as far as "overrated crap" goes.

Members c0kenp0pr0ckz Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 hahah, the drummer was complaining that the band never jams, they just rehearse and do their shows and now that their on tour with the mars volta he was all excited and was begging my uncle to jam with him because he felt so backed up musically.personally, i don't hate SOAD, but i'm not a fanatic or anything. i'll take their albums when people burn them for me and i'll enjoy them for awhile, but they don't get much listening time in comparison to my other stuff.
Members T. Alan Smith Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 Like Radiohead, I find SOAD both annoying yet fascinating. I listen to bands like that to grow my understanding of musical art. I'll listen to Seal when I want something easily digested.
Members 1tallbassguy Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I have never heard them, nor do I have any desire to do so. I am sure I would not like them.
Members MageZ Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I kinda like them. But i'm very FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR from even poor fan.
Members Azwethinkweiz Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 All of my friends are in love with them, so I dont say much, but I secretly dont like them either.
Members rikshaw Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 i dont know what to think about them. i dont like them but they are like a car accident that i cant look away from.
Members baracuda2004 Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 SOAD has one good song in my opinion METRO, and other than that they are as overated as an ELEPHANT's penis... if you had seen mine you'd know what i'm talking about...j/k:D
Members Glyder Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I like em. Took awhile to grow on me. They are unique at least. I like the political views to. That makes em okay in my book.

Totally agree, though I don't listen to Seal, and am somewhat ambivalent on Radiohead (like what I've heard generally, and they're at least pushing some boundaries). I don't own any SOAD albums but generally don't mind what I hear (that 'everybody's going to the party, have a real good time' lyric is stupid though, I hope they were being ironic). I can't vouch for their live presentation (it would be lame if they can't deliver the goods live), but they are one of the more musically and lyrically interesting nu-metal type bands out there these days, in a hard rock/metal climate full of shameless 3rd-generation Layne Staley/Eddie Vedder rip-offs...
Members Taustin Powers Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I like them a lot. Saw them live last night (for the first time), and they actually sounded excellent. See separate thread.
Members bassthumpintwin Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 meh.... i liked Toxicity ok... but they definitely are not famous because of their ability to write lyrics.....

Members ZeroGomer Posted August 14, 2005 Members Posted August 14, 2005 I used to hear them. They got annoying somewhere along the line. Maybe it's when I stopped hearing and started listening . To each his own, i suppose.
