I wish I could like iPods, but featurewise they are just grossly outdone by mainly iRiver and iAudio. Also, iPods are just way too restrictive (drivers, rights, etc.)...

EDIT: wanna know more?

www.iaudiophile.net

www.misticriver.net

I got the iAudio X5, after months of research after my Creative player died. IMO the best one out there right now and really good support through constant firmware upgrades.

They aren't any worse than any other mp3 player out there. Mine's been working fine since I got it, and the eight or nine people I know with iPods don't have a problem with them. I have heard stories of people who have had problems, many from this board itself, but never known one personally (aside from battery life in Third Gen. models).

Its a bit overpriced, but they brought the 60G model down $50 in June so they're getting more competitive. They are also smaller, physically, than the Zen. The Zen has more capacity than the standard iPod for less, but I think this can at least partially be explained by the size difference and partially because Apple overcharges for everything (no mystery or denying that).

What gets me is that people honestly think its terrible to own an iPod because something else is better. Its a piece of {censored}in' metal and plastic! We can't even get a decent Fender Hating thread going anymore, but just mention "i" and "pod" and somebody is bound to have a problem.

What I'm seeing in most of those is a lack of quality (can't really say about Smith & Wesson)

There's a reason many of us dislike them.

I don't dislike the iPod because it's successful.

I dislike the iPod because I've had to get two replacements in the past 6 months.

having followed your threads beam, you have an actual reason....the thread starter does not, other than the usual complaint about this or that;) :D

Yea, if I didn't have the bad luck I've had, I probably wouldn't be sour on them at all

there's a chance for that on any player though. i've been trying to research and decide which player i'm going to get for awhile now. i narrowed my search to the following players:

ipod 6 gb mini

dell dj 20

creative zen micro

creative zen touch

after everything i've read i'm going with the ipod. yeah i've read about some of them breaking down, but i've read about the other players breaking down more frequently. the fact is...nothing is going to be perfect, so we're all really taking chances i guess.

yup, in this day and age of mass produced products with a shelf-life of 6 months or so (at least my experience with dvd players of late), they all have issues in one way or the other.

If you don't mind staying on the low end, in terms of storage...look at the Rio Carbon. It can be had for a lot less than is listed on the homepage, supposed to be a great player.

Pass on the Dell, it's just a low-budget version of the Creative Zen. If you go with an HD based Zen, go with the Xtra.

We are. I must say, though, that my Archos (Jukebox 20) can take a beating. I've dropped it several times while carrying it including having it tumble down a flight of stairs. A few pieces came apart (snap-in). After that it wouldn't power on so I snapped them back together and all was well.

I'm just not big on Apple to begin with and given their proprietary nature, I generally try to avoid them. After reading about some compatability restrictions and noticing their products being a bit over-priced, I don't really have any interest in getting an iPod.

I've had my Creative Jukebox 3 for 3 years now without a single problem. Who cares if it's bigger than the ipods? It's smaller than the equivalent of a CD player plus 300 CDs.
