Still on cruise with the Navy. Here's a list of ports we hit so far. I can't say where we're going next because it would violate security.

Ports we've been at so far;

Rota, Spain

Augusta, Sicily Italy

Taranto, Italy

Gaeta, Italy

Thesaloniki, Greece

Split, Croatia

Vlore, Albania

Durres, Albania

Cannes, France

We've been able to get off the ship in every port and do some sight-seeing. The band has also played in every port. It's been fun, but I still can't wait to get home. Not much longer now though.

What's been going on here?

You mean, on ship, or on dock for the natives, or where... ? How was the response by Croatians and Albanians? I'm genuinely curious.

How long's your average cruise, anyway?

We play both on the ship and on the dock.

Cruises are usually 6 months.

When I tell people about the deployments that I have made in the past I am alway sure to drone on and on about the quality time I spent in the control room or in the plant in the belly of the beast. That way people don't assume that being in the navy is all about going to foreign ports and getting drunk.

I don't have any regrets, but the port visits barely make the deployment interesting. In a six month deplotment, you'll spend a total of about a month in port. The rest of the time is spent working seven days a week.
