Members Zebra Posted August 18, 2005 Members Posted August 18, 2005 I was in a local little music shop and saw this thing. They mostly carry Squiers and Fenders with a few knockoffs thrown in, but occasionally they have a weird or really nice bass that you actually want to play.It was a basic Godin fretless 4 string unlined with flatwounds. It played OK I suppose, took a little more effort than I would have liked. The tone was disappointingly un-fretless, with very little mwah. Deep and boomy, though. The controls were much too sensitive if you ask me. The mid control was also set really high, and sounded pretty much just like the high control. There was also some buzzing, especially playing near the neck. It was kinda... crappy for a $1000 bass. I would take the Squier J if I had to choose.
Members Dark Slide Posted August 18, 2005 Members Posted August 18, 2005 The bassist in my band plays a 5-String Godin bass that is fecking great IMO. I think he paid like $400 for it years ago. It is super light and the play action is so low that I literally had a hard time playing harmonics on it, because the slight pressure it took would fret the note and it had minimal fret buzz... Sweet ass bass.
