Members bassgirl9
Okay, this might not mean too much to some of you, but a friend of my husband is maybe going to sell him 3 really cool old mics. Big clunky old silver boxes from the 50s and 60s. I've been looking for some of these for years... and I might actually get my hands on some! Ooooh I'm so excited! Members degroove
Those are very cool. I knew what you were talking about before you said a thing. THere are some modern mics for recording or Blues Harp mics that look like the old ones. That is a sweet acquisition!
Members bassgirl9
the bullet is a turner dynamic 22d the wide faced box looking one is a Shure Brothers model #51 and the standard looking box thing has its label mostly rubbed off. All I can read is ASTA 77 Anyway, they're awesome.

He kind of faltered when he saw how excited we were to get them... kind of like you dont know what you've got until someone else wants it. They've been in his family for years. I think he's crazy to even think of selling them, but they'd go to a great home if he does.

Members bassgirl9
Originally posted by s4001 Very cool. Whether or not they sound good.... The box is apparently awesome. These mics are notoriously noisy and they feed back like crazy. Even the new release by Shure sounds good, but it has some feedback issues. The wide faced shure sounds high and wheezy ( I cant wait to record an old torch song with it) and the little bullet is scratchy and noisy. But who cares they look awesome. I have good vocal mics for stage. These would be just for special effects and looks and quite frankly decoration for my house... sure beats the bud light cans on my mantle. Members nosamiam
The singer in a band I was in a long time ago had the Shure on the bottom (the square, flat-faced one). You're right. Fed back like CRAZY! But I'd love to have one now that my current band is recording at home. Great mic!
