Members mcantafi
Well, it looks like my Avatar 115 B Neo can't quite handle what I'm dishin' her. Sounds awesome at low volumes, but try and push it (especially crossovered) and she gets some bad farts. FYI, it's rated for 200 watts at 4 ohms, and I'm pushing 450 per side. I guess I just want a recommendation for a new speaker. The enclosure is great; small, light, and big sound. Something that can handle 400-600 watts, 4 ohms, and might sound decent in that cabinet. No rush, but I'd like to get it working again, since it sounds so f'n incredible when I'm bi-amping it with a 4x10. Thanks for any replies gang. Members illidian
Maybe the original speaker that Dave installed in those? I'm not sure, but I would guess a Delta 15 LF or just a Delta 15 by Eminence.

Members bnyswonger
Regarding Burdizzo's recommendation - 93 sensitivity isn't too impressive, but it oughtta do what you want it to do...

Look at where that 93 dB is rated, though. Most companies rate their speakers at higher frequencies. Eminence, for instance gives their rating at 100 Hz. The Selenium 93 dB rating is an average between 55 and 100 Hz. That's a realistic rating and is better than most other speakers in that range. The other big selling point is the low Vas. The way I understand it is that the Vas measurement is the volume in Litres required in a cab in order for it to reach its lowest usable frequencies. Is that correct? Can you eleborate? Members burdizzos
I can elaborate, but I'm sitting in a class right now. You've got the right idea. The port on the cab may need to be altered to get the best results.
Members Deville
I have an Eminence Magnum 15LF in my Avatar b115. Damn expensive speaker, but it'll take anything I can throw at it and beg for more. 7.9 mm XMax! w00t!

That's also a great speaker in that cab, but it's expensive.

And that's at ~93dB! Not bad, if you ask me.

Members mcantafi
Burd: the specs for the selenium say that it's an 8 ohm speaker. You don't know of any 4 ohm speakers that would do the trick do you? Thanks for all the help so far, by the way.
Members burdizzos
There really won't be much difference in volume between and 8 ohm driver and a 4 ohm driver.

Members Deville
Think I got it off of partsexpress, but I'm not sure. However, if you average it out using the sensitivity guide, I guess the median does come out around 97dB or so. When Win ISD asks for the sensitivity, what should I put down? Instead of a hard number, Eminence gives you a bunch of data at different frequencies. But you're right, all the important numbers are around 94dB. It's a rockin' speaker. When it get it tuned with proper porting, it's going to kick even more ass. Right now, it just has the Avatar stock holes in the back.
Members burdizzos
When it comes to ISD, I use the sensitivy at the lowest available frequency. If no frequency is given, I assume that to be at 1000 Hz and I deduct 3 dB to make the comparisons realistic.
Members Deville
K, so using your method for my enclosure, that'll put its 40Hz sensitivity @ about 90dB. Sorry for the thread-jacking, mcantafi.
Members J the D
A properly ported cabinet can raise the overall efficiency compared to the speaker alone.

Members Deville
In ISD, when you're having the program calculate optimum box dimentions, how do you change the paramters around to put more depth as opposed to height? It seems bent on making an enclosure three stories high, and 6" deep! {censored}!
Members burdizzos
Put in the two dimensions that you want and then click on the letter of the unknown dimension. For instance, put in 16" for depth and 24" for width and then click on the H.
