Members PaulyWally
I had an audition, and received a lot of positive feedback from the band. A couple days later, one of the band members emailed me and basically suggested that "the gig was mine unless Bootsy Collins shows up to an audition." While I thought it was funny, and appreciated the feedback... he wrote me again today and said the band was torn 50/50. Since he told me this, I'm assuming they've narrowed it down to me and Bootsy. I hate the waiting game... *holding my breath*

A gimmick is he?!! You're talking about the dude that scored IMHO the best bass chair in the world - namely playing with James Brown - when he was in his mid teens. Best of luck to you Pauly, but let's not sell the man short. Give 'Love, Power, Peace - James Brown and the JBs Live at the Olympia' from '71 a spin to clear up this misunderstanding. Gimmick indeed!! Sheeesh!! Bassists generally seem to hail Prestia as the king of fingerstyle funk. I know it to be otherwise - but hey, that's purely subjective. Members lug
Play a recording of Bootsy singing and promise that you won't. The gig will be yours.
Members Hacker
Just tell him that while Bootsy has great chops, he's got no Flava. You win hands down on style points.

Members Cortfan
I've been studying the styles and techniques of James Brown's bass players, and while they were all excellent, Bootsy was probably the best of the best. There isn't a band tighter than JB's.

When JB found Bootsy, he was playing a tuned down guitar with only 4 strings. If that isn't someone dedicated to playing bass I don't know what is! I saw Bootsy with George Clinton a few years back and man! what a show!
