Can anyone recommend a good P/J pickup combo? I have an old Cort bass that my mother bought me 20 years ago. I'd like to get it back to the point where it's not painfull to listen to.

seems everyone does a P/J set...and better bought this way as they can be matched

i favour now barts...the string spacing isnt critical...i dont think exposed P/J sets with the fender neck really line up properly...

mine dont..jazz neck..

but i like a smooth tone

i have s-d just now and the original fender 'vintage' pup..the attack is hard and solid as it should be...for a P ...but i am hankering for smoother and less punchy attack...

cheers:)

Thanks for the input. I've been hauling this old boat anchor around with me for 20 years and know I won't get rid of it due to it's sentimental value. Figure it might as well work, right?:)

I've also heard good things about Dimarzio, though. But I like the Rios.

If you want some clips of how the Muy Grande P sounded in my SX, here are a few clips, thanks to beam.

These were with roundwound strings that weren't real fresh, so there will be more treble with newer strings, but it gives you a good idea of how the P pickup sounds.
