Members beam Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Holy Hell does it look nice. Powerpoint Presentation of Images http://www.burj-al-arab.com/tennis/ And if we could, please lets not have this turn into anything political... I just thought it was a damn pretty building and worth sharing
Members ModmanQ6 Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Cool place! A little gaudy for my tastes, but a few magic mushrooms and that could be a veritable wonderland! Did you delete the crosspost?

Members ModmanQ6 Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 That's why it has a built in sail...
Members bholder Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Yow. Interesting to see what the oil profits are going to, though.

Members bassman1956 Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 I think it's an incredible place, and would love to stay there a week!
Members Subsonicbass Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 A beautiful Oasis in the middle of a Turd.
Members Undertoad Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 See that heliport near the top? In 2004 Tiger Woods hit a few tee shots off it. This year Roger Federer & Andre Agassi played tennis up there! http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=5284
Members miles to go Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Oddly enough, I can't get the "Check Rates" page to load. It's like they know I can't afford it.
Members bassment zombie Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 Wow...not much in the way of protection/barrier here

Members bikehorn Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 I've seen that place in real life. it's incredible, although you can't actually go inside without being a paying guest. you can pay $45 to see the lobby, but that's it. hence, i didn't go in. the same people own another 5-star hotel across the street called the Jumeirah Beach Hotel...for the "poorer" millionaires
Members beam Posted August 24, 2005 Author Members Posted August 24, 2005 Originally posted by bikehorn the Jumeirah Beach Hotel...for the "poorer" millionaires I'll take it. it's 95 degrees there right now. *sigh* I wish I was there
Members Emprov Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 I've seen a documentary of that place, friggen' amazing. Pretty sure that I'll never be playing tennis on that court though -- even if I could afford to stay there. I'm pretty much terrified of heights.

Members bassplayinguy Posted August 24, 2005 Members Posted August 24, 2005 I saw the Discovery Channel thing that they did about this place, the front wall is a giant canvas wall, and they had to change the floor layout inside because the original design was so high and straigh inside that looking down from the top floor to the lobby (its got balconies all over the place inside) would give you vertigo! it was super insteresting to watch them build it, it was on the frontiers of construction show
