Members zachoff Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 [rant]Seriously, what a cluster{censored}. My driver's license has my old address but in Colorado as long as you change your address with the DMV (which I did almost two years ago), it's OK to have the wrong address on your license because they have it recorded in the system. Cool, right?! Wrong. I got a ticket for passing on the right shoulder a couple months back. I was less than 1/4 mile from my exit and traffic had been backed up for almost two miles. No big deal, I thought. Wrong. There was a cop about 6 cars ahead of me and he pulled me over and gave me a ticket... Turned out to be my third in the last 12 months (the other two were for following too closely and being alone in the carpool lane). I went to court today to fight it because I thought it to be total bull{censored} & I couldn't even plea bargain because it's my third ticket in the last year. WTF?! Nowhere was that piece of information on any document I received and no mention of this by the cop that pulled me over. I was (and still am) f'n pissed. Not to mention that two of the three tickets were for total bull{censored}... Following to closely is a total judgement call and I was following my friend. For the carpool lane thing, I'll take full responsibility. The other two though... Bull{censored}. Anyway, so there was basically no reason to go to court today & if they would have let me know that I couldn't plea bargain before today I'd have paid the ticket back when it was a $60 fine and two points instead of $125 and 4 points. {censored} {censored} {censored} the law. I just really really f'n hate how uncompromising cops are. Really. [/rant]
Members scarecrowbob Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 You sound like you drive rather agressively. Maybe you should calm that stuff down . Usually, you should never go to court (especially criminal court) without a lawyer; you will almost always waste your time.
Members zachoff Posted August 25, 2005 Author Members Posted August 25, 2005 I wouldn't say I drive aggressively... More like conveniently. The first ticket, I wasn't following too close. I'd have went to court for that one if it wasn't in Alamosa (4 hrs from Denver) at 8:30AM. The second ticket was my fault and was against the law, but affects no one... I think it even helps by getting traffic off of I-25, but that's neither here nor there. The third one, I was backed up for 30 minutes and traveled a little less than two miles. Less than 1/4 mile to go to my exit, I thought it OK to go around a few cars. My biggest complaint, other than no mention of this three tickets and no plea bargain thing is this... When did cops change from people to being robots of the system?

Members SA Rios Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 I hate the people that pass on the shoulder to get to their exit. Why do you think you're so special? Wait in line like everyone else. I used to drive trucks for a moving company and whenb I'd see someone coming up on the right side doing that, I'd quick pull onto the shoulder right as they were approaching. Scared the {censored} out of them. Also tought them a leson that you never know when someone might pull onto the shoulder ahead of you.

Well, I hate being backed up in traffic for 30 minutes when I'm 5 minutes from home.
Members burdizzos Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 In Virginia, that passing on the shoulder move would have earned you a reckless driving ticket and since it was your third ticket in 12 months, it would have made you a habitual offender. The judge would have imposed a serious fine and suspended a 30 day jail term provided that you attend a $60 driver improvement course, which is only available on Saturdays if you work a regular job. I'm betting the cop could have ticketed you for RW and didn't. Seems like he's a bit more flexible than you give him credit for.
Members Emprov Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 A few years back I got tagged by radar going 37 in a 25. It was in a section that's 35 and then it slows down in front of an old folks home for like 100 yards, nobody even knows that the speed limit changes. Well I found out via radar. Problem was, I was following another Police car at the time. He didn't slow down and I honestly didn't realize that the speed limit had changed. I brought up the fact that I was following a Police car to the guy who was writing the ticket and he said something about them being able to pretty much do what they want. I couldn't stay quiet so I said something like, "Ooookay, so you guys feel that it's unsafe to drive faster than 25 here and you routinely drive 35+, even though you've deemed it unsafe??? You don't see a problem here?". Pretty much went downhill from there.

Had the pleasure of being a passenger in a vehicle operated by an off-duty "officer". Drunk, 90+ MPH. Pissed me off. The same {censored}ing guy is out the next day pulling people over for 10MPH over. Members 12StringThunder Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 the police are doing their jobs, if you break the law, any law, expect the responcibilities for breaking that law. if you dont agree with that law, make moves to change that law or move to somewhere that the partictular law or laws you disagree with don't exist.

It's not going to be -- a bargain is just that a bargain and is discretionary, not codified at 3 tickets in a year - counsel might have been advisable
Members zachoff Posted August 25, 2005 Author Members Posted August 25, 2005 You know, you {censored}ers all act like you've never gotten a bull{censored} ticket before. For now, {censored} off. Sorry for being a dick, but I'm super f'n pissed about this & needed to vent.

If the guy wants to vent, let him vent. While I'm glad that you're so happy go lucky about getting tickets, there are many of us who feel like we've been screwed a few times. I could tell you of at least 5 tickets that I've gotten that I shouldn't have. I know a ton of cops and in each case, they've pretty much said that they would have "let that one go". Every friggen' time I get pulled over, I get a ticket. My wife on the other hand, gets pulled over all of the time and she's got a clean record. Go figure.
Members Jonny Five Posted August 25, 2005 Members Posted August 25, 2005 Not all cops are assholes... sometimes they feel bad about grabbing you in a speed trap. I was visiting some friends in upstate NY and i got pulled over for doing 44 in a 35 zone. The cop was really apologetic, and told me he'd usually let me off with a warning, especially since i was out of state, but a certain person in the area had been complaining about speeders. Turns out the complainer was the judge who was supposed to see the ticket's case. NY allows you to write a brief statement if you are pulled over and unable to attend the hearing. I did, but still got stuck with the sizeable fine. I tried appealing (the judge had a lil thing called CONFLICT OF INTEREST) and reporting the judge to the higher NY courts, just 'cause he was abusing his power. However, the great legal system of NY decided they were right. Bugger.

But if you disagree with something try and do something about it like getting laws changed or just accepting it as normal happenings. bitching and complaining usualy gets nothing solved. And having a happy go lucky view on the world has kept me in a good mood for the last 30 years, but when something does anger me that souldn't have been done I try to do something about it and not just bitch and wine.

If a person came up along side of you in a movie theater line after you'd been waiting for a 1/2 hour, you'd be pissed too. Just because people are surronded by 2 tons of metal, theyt feel like they can do anything.

Just for the record, I did call cops hypocritical, arogant, assholes in an attempt to aid in the venting process. By the way, 12StringThunder, I don't mean to put words in your mouth. It's just an observation.

For the record, I'm a pretty darn nice guy and rarely show negative emotions and, in short, I have a very happy go lucky view of the world. This is one issue though that really bugs me, everyone's got at least one -- even you. It's not the fact that I get busted, it's the fact that the law is so subjective and open to interpretation, i.e. the mood of the officer at the time. If everyone got a ticket for what I was doing when I received my tickets, no harm no foul. It's the fact that the law appears to be so picken' unequal that bugs me.
